The best computer virus protection isn't a software program that costs over a $100.

Windows is a complex operating system and while it can become frustrating at times, it is important for one to remember that the operating system must be kept healthy in order for the computer to continue running the applications that you love. As you probably know by this point, you won't be able to play the games, surf the Internet, or listen to your favorite music if your computer is hit by a virus, and with that being the case you will need to make sure you utilize some of the tools that came with Windows itself.

These tools are pretty simple, the first one being Windows Update. Yes we know that this might not sound like a virus protection program, but a good 90% of all viruses on the internet at this very moment are based upon certain security vulnerabilities that are to be found with in the operating system. Certain patches for Windows can eradicate these issues effectively, but you will not be out of the woods yet. After you configure the update, configuring the firewall is key to your safety.

The firewall can be manipulated from the control panel, and it will help you out by asking permission before certain programs are actually run. While it can become irritating at times it is still a very important program to keep around as doing so tends to filter out those things you DON'T want on your computer.

Windows also offers and anti-phishing software that can determine when someone is attempting to gain access to a password of yours. Something you are going to notice is that people are only out for themselves, especially when it comes to the distribution of viruses. These viruses can easily disrupt your daily life, getting in the way of life and even damaging your computer. Chances are that you know just how expensive it can be to have your computer repaired after a virus attack, but with a few preventive measures, you can stop viruses in their tracks.

Windows provides you with quite a few tools though you should always ensure are on your machine. You will have the obvious and highly common anti-spyware and adware removers, but a decent virus protection program would help out quite a bit. Remember that while windows may be highly capable and have the ability to take care of itself, it still needs some supplementary help in order to get by. Look into the different windows features now to see what you've been missing!
