It seems easy while buying upholstered furniture for your home. We often tend to forget certain points to check while choosing then furniture or rather we forget to make a precautionary check on the durability of the furniture. Furniture is made to provide comfort through appropriate engineering and a well structured frame to help support the spine. Contemporary pieces tend to have clean lines, and are usually made with modern materials such as MDF, board and foam. While this may sound uninspiring, choose wisely and you can expect a hard-wearing piece of furniture. While modern furniture may add a speck of antique delight in your room. While buying a sofa for your room proportions matter a lot. Before actually stepping in the sofa shop you need to first analyze the theme of your living room. Check for the average dimension of your room, if the other furniture are enough bulky, you should avoid buying huge and bulky sofas. Finally, before you buy, you should always check that the piece will fit through your doors, especially if your home has a narrow hall or angled corridor. Construction: Sofas are constructed from hardwood frame, held together with dowels, glue and screws. Traditionally, seat springs are hand-tied to a webbing base but, some sofas will have coiled springs attached to metal strips stretching from front to back of the frame. In a sprung-back design, S-shaped springs or serpentine springs are used. Back and arms if sprung add to the shape of the sofa. It has been an ongoing myth that the heavier the sofa, the chances of durability can continue over the ages. Before you buy your favorite choice, it is necessary you make a roll-check over the sofa, nudge your knee to the foam, if the sofa shakes or moves, your furniture needs review on the quality, looks and construction. Fabric: Fabric is the most important thing over the sofa structure. The fabric gives life to the stable frame and hence it is important to choose different prints of fabric to weave over. Textured and patterned fabrics are more forgiving than plain, light colors and smooth finishes, and you should avoid loosely woven fabrics. Watch the fabric closely for defective pieces and for the color selection, make sure you view them in situ in both natural daylight and artificial light. By law, all upholstered furniture must be fire-retardant; a square swing ticket with a green edge indicates that it is resistant to a smoldering cigarette and a lit match; a triangular swing ticket with a red edge shows that the cover is not match-resistant, but that it has a suitably fire-resistant interlining beneath.
