Best Tips for Dating Thai women

When dating Thai women there are quite a few cultural differences that you need to be aware of to avoid making not only embarrassing mistakes but sometimes costly and heartbreaking ones as well.
So here are a two of my best tips for dating or even having a relationship with a Thai woman.
Buying gifts for Thai women

You need to be careful with this one because a lot has been said about how Thai women are always after money or presents. There is a couple of issues to be considered with this but one I will share in this article is that in Thai culture it is expected that a man will give a woman a gift to show his interest in her. This means that if a Thai man has his eye on a Thai woman and would like to open conversation with her and create the opportunity to date her he will start by presenting her with a gift, very often some type of jewelry. If a woman accepts the gift it gives him the signal that she is interested and he can continue his attempts to date her.If the woman is not interested she will politely refuse to take the gift.
The mistake that western men often make is they start buying gifts for their Thai girlfriend very early in the relationship and unfortunately this can make them get a little to used to the idea of receiving gifts all the time. It doesn't mean you shouldn't buy her gifts but try not to be to over the top with it or you might find she will come to expect it all the time.

Careful not to confuse the famous Thai culture of Greng Jai with lying.

This really is a tricky one to be honest and I have to be a little be careful and say there are some Thai women who take advantage of a Thai culture they have called Greng Jai. This article is not about Greng Jai but to explain briefly Greng jai is where Thai people have a tendency to want to avoid conflict with people, or not upset people. This can mean that they will not always speak their mind about some things if they feel it may upset or they will try to find another more tactful way of saying things that do not cause conflict or upset. The problem with Greng Jai with Westerners is it is easily confused with lying or not being honest and this is where you should be careful that the Thai woman you are in a relationship is sincere and not taking advantage of Greng Jai. Just remember that true Greng Jai is done for a good reason of not wanting to hurt others.It is not meant to deceive.
