I’ve heard every excuse in the book as to why people decide not to focus on their financial life and make it better -— mostly I hear that people are just too busy. Here’s the truth. Everyone is busy! When there is something that you really want, you find the time to do it, right? Okay, so you might be saying that you really don’t want to focus on your financial life, but that you do really want your financial life to look different?
Do you know what might happen if you decide not to make changes in your financial life? Do you know what would happen if you decide to make changes in your financial life?
You outcome will depend on the decision you make. What’s great is that you get to choose which financial path you want to travel on.
Honestly, there are things I don’t like doing either, like filing, cleaning the stove, folding laundry and my list goes on. I do know that I like the feeling of getting it done rather than leaving it for another day, an undefined, who-knows when day, and I feel successful when those things are completed.
When you procrastinate and make excuses for not paying attention to your financial life, it takes away valuable energy from your life. Energy that you spend worrying about money could be used for more productive and fun things you love to do. It also takes away an opportunity to be financially free, knowledge that would empower you to take control of your financial life, and peace of mind, to name a few.
Taking the no-excuses path will get you to exactly where you want to be in your financial life. When you take action, there is no room for any excuses. Begin taking the following steps to say NO to excuses and YES to taking action in your financial life, and movement toward the financial peace and contentment that you deserve:
1. Observe Yourself: To know whether you’re making an excuse, you must be able to watch yourself from an outside perspective. If you make excuses on a daily basis, you may be so used to doing it that it’s a challenge to notice. So, slow down and take the time to hear what you say to yourself when you spend money or when you think about money. Do this in a non-judgmental way.
2. Sign a Financial Wellness Contract: By signing this contract, you are committingto make your financial life a priority and giving up making excuses, complaining, avoiding or blaming anyone for your financial situation for the next six weeks (and hopefully beyond!). Participating in any of these behaviors hinders your financial success. This really works! You may contact me for a Financial Wellness Contract.
3. Read Dr. Wayne W. Dyer’s, “Excuses Be-Gone!” one chapter every week. This is a great resource and tool to keep in your toolbox. It will help you in changing lifelong, self-defeating thinking habits.
4. Push Yourself: Once you begin to take a look at your financial life, you might feel really uncomfortable, but if you stick with it, the discomfort will pass. Take small steps in getting your financial life in order. Remember, you signed a contract, so keep moving forward to make the changes you really want in your financial life.
5. Think About Your Feel-Good End: What feeling best describes how you’ll feel when you get your financial life in order—happy, calm, peaceful, excited, or empowered! Focus on getting to this feeling and let it be your motivating force to achieve what you have set out to do to make your financial life a success!
