Good day,
I have question for you today, one that I think may change your perspective about yourself a bit. Do you consider yourself an expert? I hope there are at least one or two subjects that you are considered quite good at, very knowledgeable at least, if not an outright expert. If not, maybe you aren’t giving yourself the credit you deserve! Is that possible?
The reaso
I ask, is because today there are so many people that seem to be experts. Maybe they don’t all come right out and say it but they imply that they know so much more than you do, am I right? With the economy being in the toilet, all of a sudden there are tons of new “economic” experts popping up all over, most pedaling their books of course. Or take the housing crisis, how many experts have you seen on TV espousing this plan or that to take advantage of the historic low prices and get rich. The diet world is no different, I’m sure if watch any TV at all you see all of the new shows about weight loss, or commercials with the latest exercise craze, everybody touting their system as the greatest weight-loss system ever! Don’t listen to all those other jokers, we know what’s best for you…
So what makes a person an expert? I guess my opinion is that anybody who knows significantly more about any subject tha
I do is an expert. That’s pretty general, so here’s a dictionary definition:
a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist. Ok, so I was pretty close, right? But who decides what guidelines to follow and who qualifies as an expert? If my guess is correct it’s usually the person calling themselves an expert, so really anybody can call themselves one. Wow, you mean it’s really that easy? Yes, I’m afraid so. But hold on a minute, if anybody can be an expert, that means I can be one too, right? Of course you can, just follow a few obvious guidelines and you’ll have that expert status tattooed on your forehead in no time…
Ok, I’m making light of the subject a little bit. But really, if you put your mind to it, why couldn’t you be an expert at something? In fact, that is exactly what I recommend you do. There has to be something that you really are good at, I’m sure of that. We all have a skill, a talent, a hobby we spend an inordinate amount of time at, that has allowed us to gain a nearly super-human amount of knowledge about. Whatever that “something” is for you, take the time to lay out all of the details of that knowledge. Take inventory, so to speak, and realize how much you really know about that subject. Then, if there is more to learn about it, do some research on the subject. If you can say that you are an expert on a subject, how much would that boost your confidence? Quite a bit I’m sure! But not only that, make sure others know about this fantastic skill you have, spread the word. Go ahead, don’t be shy about it! Let the world know how you have become an expert on the subject, and pretty soon you will find yourself being the “go-to” guy or girl for that information.
For me, that knowledge has always been about computers, since I’ve been in the business for so long. When anybody I know has a question about computers they run to me first! What a great feeling, right? But really computers are also a great hobby of mine not just my job. And I believe a lot of people are experts at their particular hobbies, since it’s something they spend so much time doing. So think about it, take inventory of your skills and knowledge, and if you are an expert on something then tell the world about it. Start taking the credit you deserve!
To your continued success and happiness
