Boracay has earned its status as a major Philippine travel destination due to its world-class resorts and gorgeous white sand beaches. Indeed, the beautiful Boracay resorts never fail to attract hundreds of visitors from all over the world. However, one must be reminded that there are lots of other activities to do in this tropical island than hang out in the beach and stretch out in the sun. One Boracay activity that has become a favorite among visitors is scuba diving. For many local and foreign tourists, diving is one of things that make the lovely island worth visiting. There are several dive sites located along the shores of Boracay Island. To give you an idea of the awesome diving opportunities around the place, here is an overview of the top dive sites that you can check out: Laurel Island The Laurel Island dive site actually offers two separate diving points - Big Laurel and Small Laurel, both of which have different canyons and swim-throughs to explore. This site is home to beautiful corals and abundant aquatic life so you better take your camera with you if you plan to dive around these parts. With a depth of 8m to 27m (26ft to 88ft), Laurel Island dive site is perfect for both higher level divers and open water divers. Angol Point This dive site has an average depth of 7m to 15m (23ft to 49ft), which is ideal for novice and training divers. It is also great for snorkeling and night diving because of good visibility even after dark. As you make your descent in the area, prepare yourself to be greeted by the sight of nudibranchs, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers, as well as schools of clownfish and damselfish. Crocodile Island The Crocodile Island is located at the southern portion of Boracay, fifteen minutes away from White Beach. This diving site has an average depth of 5m to 22m (16ft to 72ft). Exploring the area can be tough at times due to strong current, although it only adds to the excitement. The sight that awaits you is also amazing as nudibranch, scorpion fish, moray eels, cuttle fish, lion fish, sea snakes, and gorgonian fan corals thrive in these parts. Laguna de Boracay Divers of all levels can drift with the current in Laguna de Boracay, a lagoon located at the backside of the island. Current in this 5m-20m (16ft-65ft) deep dive site is mostly very light. Beginner and professional divers alike can get pleasure from exploring the impressive rock formations in this area while being amazed by the spectacular marine scenery courtesy of anemones, butterfly fish, sea squirts, clams, feather stars and other sea inhabitants. Yapak Dive Sites Yapak is the most visited and probably the best dive site in Boracay, offering an authentic underwater adventure. This is where you can experience a fantastic descent made more exciting by special appearances of reef sharks, sea snakes and manta rays. This diving area is actually divided into four sites (Yapak 1, Yapak 2 and so on), which can only be visited one at a time. Generally, Yapak dive sites are recommended for advanced diver levels. With a minimum depth of 30 meters and an average of 60-70 meters maximum depth, Yapak offers an experience of descending beside a wall thickly covered with corals of different kinds – with sharks occasionally hovering around (don’t worry, reef sharks are generally shy).
