Barriers; overcoming the obstacles that you encounter on your journey toward choosing healthy food options can be and is for many of us a challenge on the journey to making our dreams come true. How you react to these hurdles is imperative when searching for the lifestyle of your wishes.

The following is a list of some of the Sunday Survey comments and ways to handle their predicaments.

~It’s a challenge for me to pick a healthy choice over a calorie-loaded option: Why not have a small segment of the calorie-loaded option to satisfy your need and then indulge in a healthy choice, that way you will have the best of both worlds and feel satisfied. ~My whole family won’t eat all the healthy choices: As with anything new, try to take it one step at a time. Presenting too many healthy choices at once can be over-whelming. ~Traveling: When your job takes you away from home it is all about preparing ahead of time for the trip. Be aware of the hotel amenities, pack a cooler for the trip and stay active while away. ~Graduation parties: Prep yourself before you even step foot out of your door. Eat at home, drink lots of water, wear a fitted outfit and review your goals before arriving at the party. ~I crave sweets almost every day: Sugar is brutal and can so be considered a legal drug. Do not deprive yourself completely of this substance; try to cut down gradually on the amount of sugar that you allow into your house and search for low-sugar options. ~I want to eat a candy bar for lunch: So eat it! However, shop for the mini candy bars and allow yourself one. Savor it, delight in its pleasure and move on to a nutritious option. ~Time and convenience: Be realistic, make it attainable and hold yourself accountable. ~My portion sizes are too big: Choose a smaller plate, position yourself away from the food, drink lots of water and take your time to enjoy your food.

As you continue on your journey there will be days filled with powerful, healthy food options that you never knew you even had the capacity to employ and then there will be the days where you feel like a kid in a candy shop unable to subdue the feelings and desires. When push comes to shove, do the best you can to maintain control over your choices and remain at the wheel. You hold the power, you call the shots and you reap the benefits when the day is done. Make yourself proud of you!
