Have you wondered why some people are able to cure themselves from depression and others are not? Even those actively partaking in similar self-helping treatments do not always receive the same results. Some are cured and others remain depressed. After analyzing case histories of depressed versus formerly depressed persons, one attribute stands out most: the attribute of hope. Whether or not those suffering from an illness are hopeful makes all the difference for their prognosis and recovery. Research shows individuals who are hopeful and optimistic about their recovery fair far better than those who lack hope. Therefore, acquiring a hopeful mentality is essential to combating your depression. nn Having hope brings immense power, motivation, confidence, and determination in combating any illness. For instance, all of us at one time have heard of a miraculous story where one person's hopeful determination has led them in overcoming a devastating illness. Such stories show the power of hope. Moreover, clinical studies have started to focus on the power in which being hopeful has in overcoming depression. So far studies examining the longitudinal effects that hope has on anxiety and depression indicate that being hopeful leads to a decrease in depression. Showing clinical evidence that an individual's mentality plays an important role in their recovery and cure.nn It appears being hopeful or unhopeful is the distinguishing factor between who will be cured and who will persist with a depressive disorder. For example, a particular psychologist, who will remain unnamed, is not only director of a mental health facility, but is specialized in depression, written several books on the matter and has suffered from the illness the majority of his life. Although he has found ways to treat his depression he has yet to cure himself. So why can’t he, a psychologist knowledgeable about depression, cure himself? The answer lies within his writings. His writings demonstrate his lack of hope and pessimistic mentality. For instance, he views depression as an incurable disease. His views aid to his feelings of hopelessness and helplessness causing his depression to persist. nn This particular psychologist and others like him, view depression as being out of their realm of control. As a result they are more prone to rely on antidepressants and other medications as their main form of treatment. In which case, the antidepressants elevate their mood and treat their depression, but do not cure them from the illness. Depressed persons’ who take a more active self-helping approach, however, view depression as being made up of life problems that can be worked through by learning and implementing skills. It can be inferred these individuals, active in their recovery, are more likely to be hopeful than their endogenous counterparts. nn You need not to worry if you are currently lacking hope. Since depressed persons are apt to thinking pessimistically rather than optimistically, most to all of you are probably lacking hope. Not to worry. It does not matter if you have been lacking hope but that you become hopeful. Personally, I had suffered from depression for almost a decade. Much of that time I lacked hoped. Not until I initiated my own program to recovery and made curing myself from depression my personal and life goal did I become hopeful. This is worth repeating: Observing and acknowledging the necessary components that I needed to learn and implement created a pathway to being cured. Seeing this pathway that I needed to take fostered hope within myself. Within one year I had cured myself from depression.nn Therefore, observe and acknowledge the necessary components you need to learn and implement to create your pathway for being cured. Ask yourself, “What relevant treatments, interventions, or skills do I need to learn to overcome depression?” Doing so will help foster knowledge, motivation, and hope. Having the knowledge to the path for your cure, having the motivation to follow that path, and the hope of living a depression-free life, will enable you to make a successful recovery. nn Harboring an optimistic mentality, such as being hopeful, is essential for curing yourself from depression, or any illness for that matter. Be hopeful about your recovery. Believe that a cure to your depression is possible. If need be, reinforce your beliefs by using an affirmation. Furthermore, acquire and honor the mentality that you are going to do everything you can to cure yourself. Learn any relevant treatments, interventions, or skills. Therefore, go through the rest of your recovery phase with an optimistic mentality. You are capable of curing yourself. You can cure yourself. I know that each of you can do it. It is time that each of you realizes this same strength within yourselves.n
