Many people would agree that communication is one of the most important parts of a relationship, so it can be difficult if you have a partner who isn't very expressive or when you’re not very expressive. You don’t want to push your partner too hard, but how are you supposed to know what they are thinking if they don't tell you? Miscommunication can lead to unnecessary fights and even a breakup. Here are four ways to improve communication in your relationship.

Ask Questions

You have questions. You deserve answers. If your partner isn't one to talk about important things without prompting, ask about the things you want to know. It's a good idea to ask open ended questions instead of yes/no questions to encourage a more developed answer.
rnYou want to ensure that you ask the questions in the right environment, and you don't want your partner to feel attacked or annoyed. Start with broader questions and narrow in on the issue as they get more comfortable. It may be that they aren’t ready to talk about whatever is bothering them at that moment. That’s fine, but you shouldn’t let it fester for too long. Together, set a time when you two will sit together and discuss it. When they do respond, you should make a point to listen to their answers, even if you don’t like them.

Manage Your Reactions

Your partner isn't going to want to talk to you if you blow up every time you have a serious conversation. Be sure to train yourself to keep your cool when you talk. If they say something that bothers you or gets you riled up, approach the topic calmly. Letting your emotions control the conversation will only lead to both of you saying things you don’t mean.
rnIf you are too upset to face the conversation calmly, you might want to come back to the conversation once you've relaxed. When you’re relaxed, write a list of the points you want to address so that you have something to ground you when emotions run high during the next discussion.

Talk to a Clairvoyant

Whether you believe in psychics or not, clairvoyant phone readings can be very telling. The psychic may be able to pick up on the energy between you and your partner. Like a therapist, they can ask the questions that help you get to the bottom of the issue. Who knows? They may even actually be psychic and be able to tell you what will happen in the future. Plus, it can be fun and can help ease some of the tension between you and your partner. As you both relax, you’ll be better able to open up to each other. You and your friends or you and your partner can laugh and enjoy the experience.

Go to Therapy

Therapy is a great place for couples to come together and talk about their issues. A professional will be able to mediate the conversation, increasing the lines of communication. Plus, if your partner doesn't want to talk, the professional will be able to pull some information out of them. Once you are able to talk, you can work on your issues and move forward.

Some people struggle talking about their feelings. Other people simply don't care enough. If your partner and you aren't communicating properly, these tips can help. As you talk more, you may learn that you and your partner were more connected than you thought.
