Burns are some of the most common injuries afflicting Americans annually. Studies have shown that approximately 2.4 million people suffer from burn injuries every year and that roughly 650,000 seek medical attention to treat their burns.

While many burn injuries are serious enough that the victim will require professional medical attention, there are a number of easy and readily available home remedies that can be used to treat minor burns. Using home remedies is a great way to ensure getting quick relief for the pain caused by burn injuries. Additionally, many home remedies can help you injuries heal faster than if they were left alone.

Treatment:

1. Whenever a person receives a burn, he or she should not put oil, butter, ice, or ice water on it. This can cause more damage to the skin. If the burn covers an extensive amount of the body, it does not matter how serious the burn is; medical attention should be sought.

2. Aloe is amazing for burns of any kind. Slice off a whole leaf (or more) of an Aloe Plant, peel the green outer cover away, and shave the clear inner cellulose into a bowl. Place into a blender or food processor with a small amount of distilled water (Aloe 80% - Water 20%) and blend into a smooth mixture. Apply to any burn. This mixture can be put into a squeeze bottle and kept in the refrigerator for quite a while. It works wonderfully.

3. Preparation H, or any other hemorrhoid cream, is a great way to soothe burns quickly. Developed to reduce swelling and alleviate pain, hemorrhoid cream will help you deal with the pain from a burn injury quickly and effectively.

4. Comfrey promotes the growth of new cells since it contains what is called allantoin. Because Comfrey is a cooling herb, people have good success using comfrey poultices for healing burns. This herb draws out the heat, and regenerate damaged cells.

5. An ideal way of providing instant treatment and protection is to use a sterile impregnated burn dressing. Burnshield are the leaders in specialised burn treatments and dressings and offer unrivalled heat dissipation and infection prevention.

6. To help a burn heal quicker, keep the area as clean as possible. 24-hours after the injury, you should wash the burn with either soap and water or mild Betadine. Between washings, the burn should be kept dry and covered with gauze or a bandage.

7. For many people who experience a burn injury, their knee-jerk reaction is to place the affected area under very cold water. However, ice water can actually make a burn worse by killing the cells at the burn site. To treat a burn injury with water, use cool water instead of cold water. Cool water will lower the temperature at the burn site and will stop the burn from spreading, but will not damage any skin cells.
