Bury St Edmunds station upgrade complete

The £150,000 project to revamp Bury St Edmunds is finished with its official opening to the public today, conducted by the Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Cllr Chris Spicer. National Express East Anglia (NXEA) conducted the upgrade as part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme. Improvements include better lighting and access in the booking hall, staircases in line with DDA requirements, new customer information screens installed, improvements to the toilets and additional CCTV. The opening will also officially mark the formation of ‘The Friends of Bury St Edmunds Station’, a new community group who will operate under the train operator’s Station Adoption scheme where local groups and individuals help to support the operator in ensuring a pleasant environment at stations for rail passengers. Andrew Goodrum, customer service director NXEA said: “I am delighted that we have completed this significant improvement scheme at Bury St Edmunds, helping to improve access and provide our customers with modern and attractive facilities. “I am also pleased to welcome the positive input we have received from ‘The Friends of Bury St Edmunds Station’ community group and I look forward to their continued participation with activity at the station.” Tell us what you think at opinion@railtechnologymagazine.com
