Sleeping is an important activity that we usually engage in each and every single night. It is an activity that is essential for our overall physical, mental and emotional health. We have come a very long way since the ancient times of long ago when beds were made up of neatly and carefully arranged grass and hay. These days our beds range from standard spring mattresses to fully adjustable reclining beds that have temperature control that can be set to your exact warmth requirements. This article shall briefly explain why it is important to buy a quality bed and pay your sleep debt if you have any. The most important reason why it is important to buy a quality bed is because sleep is very important to our overall health. It is important to get adequate amounts of sleep. Most doctors and health experts agree that an adult human being requires a minimum of eight to ten hours of sleep each and every day. Even if you have a job that requires you to work all night such as a security guard, it is still important that sometime within the twenty-four hours of the day, one is able to catch up on a minimum of eight hours of restful sleep. Health professionals warn that an individual who has not slept for twenty four hours is as dangerous as a drunk person. They are bound to make many unnecessary and clumsy mistakes that could have been easily avoided. Sleep also plays an essential housekeeping role in our brains as it removes toxins that accumulate during the day. When we are asleep we seem to be completely resting. However, surprisingly our minds are very active. The conscious part of our brain may be completely off, however, our other mind known as the subconscious mind is a giant that never sleeps. This part of our minds stays busy organizing our memories and forging connections between the nerves within our brains. Sleep debt is the difference between the amount of sleep you should be getting and the amount you actually get within a given period of time. It's a deficit that grows every time we remove some extra time off our nightly sleep schedule. On one episode of the renowned show called “Air Crash Investigation” that plays on the National Geographic Channel, it was determined that the prime reason that a specific plane crash occurred was due to sleep deprivation. The investigators found that the pilots had been very busy for the past three days and had been working in the air non-stop for a long time. The crash was not caused by any technical malfunctions, rather it was caused by human error. It was explained that it is important to pay your “sleep debt” to avoid such catastrophic accidents. In the light of this discovery, there have been regulations that have been introduced to ensure that pilots all over the word rest adequately before taking to the skies. In conclusion, it is important to buy a quality bed and pay your sleep debt. It is true to say that a better you begins with a better night. One should buy a quality bed and get adequate amounts of sleep so that they can wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and ready for the day ahead of them.
