Cadel Evans wins Tour de France
One rider that wasn’t expected to win it all, Cadel Evans was finally able to come up victorious at the Tour de France after finishing second in two other opportunities. It was the time trial (the last competitive leg) that allowed the Australian to claim the win over his closes rival, Andy Schleck. Evans, at 34, is the second oldest man to win the tour, and it is also the first man outside the USA or Europe to do so.
NFL CBA to be signed today
Everything points out to a signing of the new NFL CBA today, as the 32 representatives of the players are to sit down together at 11 am in order to sign the final agreement which will last for ten years (although it might be earlier than this if either owners or players decides to choose to opt out in year 5 of the deal or 2015 once they have hit deal-breakers). If everything goes as planned, the deal will be completed this afternoon, when members of the NFLPA reunites with league negotiators and commissioner Roger Goodell, and once everything is clear, it will open the way for free agency, which might start on Tuesday.
Russ Cochran wins Senior British Open
Russ Cochran managed to win the Senior British Open by 2 shots (after six birdies and closing at 12 under) over other fellow Americans in Tom Watson (who was looking for his fourth British Open title) and Mark Calcavecchia. The win meant the first major title for the 52 year old Cochran at Walton on the Hill in England and his third victory at the Champions Tour, though it was his first this season.
Fenerbahce might lose title due to match-fixing scandal
The scandals concerning Turkey’s pro soccer match fixing probe continues, as Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim and other thirty people were jailed as the main suspects. Now the Turkish Football Federation is exploring the possibility of postponing the start of the league and see what kind of sanctions will be applied to the clubs involved, including the Fenerbahce, the current champion, and whom might lose their title in the same manner as Juventus, the Italian club who was stripped of their 05 and 06 titles for the same reason. The local government has come up with tougher laws concerning cheating in soccer, with penalties reaching a maximum of twelve years in prison.
