Growing old without long term care insurance daily benefits to receive is like a death wish, as people who truly value their lives and aspire to spend even the remaining part of it with their loved ones would’ve planned their future health care needs. Long term care insurance helps cover the long term care expenses of people in a nursing home, community-based LTC facility or at home. The present rates of long term care (LTC) facilities are too high that they can cost your lifetime savings. As a matter of fact, so many uninsured Americans have turned to Medicaid already because their resources have been wiped out by the cost of care. Baby boomers who are expecting to be in the line of 80s come 2030 can avoid that fate by coming up with an effective LTC plan. In fact, they should have a definite LTC plan already by now because financial advisors and LTC specialists have projected that the cost of care will increase fourfold when that time arrives. Just imagine from the average hourly rate of $19, a home health aide will charge $76 per hour starting 2030 to assist an elderly or disabled individual in the activities of daily living (ADL) such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, continence, and transferring or walking. Meanwhile, the average monthly rate of assisted living facilities is expected to jump from $3,261 to $13,044. Without a long term care insurance (LTCI) policy, an average American can only afford six months of care or even less if he will be relying solely on his nest egg for the financing of his LTC requirements. rnNow nursing homes with a median annual rate of $77,745 will charge a whopping sum of $310,980 so anybody who is expecting half a million upon retirement, and planning to use this for his LTC should rethink his LTC strategies. Long Term Care Insurance Daily Benefits Your maximum daily benefit amount is the amount of money that your insurer will pay for each day that you received care. Some insurance companies pay 100% of the insured’s expenses in a nursing home and would cover only a certain percentage of his expenses in other LTC settings. For instance, if the insured individual’s maximum daily benefit amount for a nursing home is $220 his daily benefit for an assisted living center should be 70% of that amount while his daily benefit for in-home care should not exceed 50% of his daily benefit for a nursing home. Before you can divide your maximum daily benefit though, you have to first determine its total amount. For you to be able to pull this off, you have to have coherent knowledge about the rates of different LTC services in your area. Once you have determined the cost of care in your place, find out which specific type of care are you going to require someday. Your long term care insurance daily benefits should conform to the cost of care in your area because if these are smaller you will end up paying out-of-pocket.
