Called to be a Coach?

Recently on my show we heard National Catholic Coaches Association Vice President of Operations Andrew Whitaker talk about his size, with the implication being that his calling wasn't to be an athlete. Yet, with great enthusiasm he spoke of how he *has* still been able to find a way to make a difference in people's lives. We see that in sports, that everyone has a different role -- athletes, training staffs, administrators, referees or umpires, and, of course, some are called to be coaches... They show leadership qualities and, like those of us who choose to evangelize, they feel that they have something meaningful to say that will be helpful to a wider group. We need to pray for coaches to know the importance of this task that they've been chosen for. They are looked up to by many and thus have a great opportunity and responsibility before them. It's not unlike Acts chapter 6 verses 3 and 4 which say, "Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Friends, let us be open to whatever role God is calling us to fill and let us be obedient and give glory and honor to Him in that and let us be champions of His word so that more may hear the call to seek Him.
