Most of us like music, maybe even sing along to songs in the car, or practice our best air guitar at karaoke on a Friday night. But then there are the lovers, I mean the true blue, authentic eat, breathe, and live for the beats. But how do you stand a chance at moving out of mom's basement, and getting your message out to an actual audience? By going somewhere legit to learn your craft, and take you to the next level. You look into recording engineer schools.

Whether you want to be out in front of the crowd, or reworking tracks behind the scenes, you'll need some practical experience. To even get looked at, takes more than talent alone. You need training.

There are lots of options available that have actual studios for you to work in, and mentors from the industry to give you tips and guidance. Lots of the schools today even offer credits and have been recognized by top producers in the music world.

Imagine having school be fun. And when you complete the training, you can use their connections through placement assistance, if they have it. No, not all schools have great results. Part of that will be up to you.

Researching the net for local schools is an easy place to begin. Check into their websites to see how they represent themselves. Then start looking other places to see 'their other side'. You want to get a pretty good scope of what's being said about them all around to be objective.

You can also follow what your favorite artist are saying about them, or have said. You'd be amazed how many different endorsements there are out there for this sort of things. Sometimes the schools have connections with them. So it may not be unbiased opinion, but if it's an artist you respect, it's up to you.

Another issue you will need to determine, is where the best demographic is for you. There are certain places where some genres do well, and others they flop. It may not be financially feasible for you to relocate, so all these things should be evaluated before you make your decision. This research is equally important when considering different schools.

It all boils down to whether you want to have a shot at making music a profession, or you are just dabbling with it. The best way to ensure you have an opportunity, is to treat it like any other career path. Getting some training at any of the recording engineer schools out there, can help get your foot in the door. You may be the next Jay Z. But without the right training, you may never get off the street corner!
