Calpe is an ideal location for your COSTA BLANCA HOLIDAYS that is if you are looking for a place steeped in history along with a wealth of culture. This once ancient fishing port has now become a modern day tourist destination with all the amenities we all expect while on holiday. There is no shortage of sun, sea and sand along with an abundance of relaxation. Calpe is a mixture of modern high rise buildings while retaining its medieval narrow streets echoing a time of long long ago, there are many ancient sites to see in Calpe but don't miss out on the imposing rock face called the Penon de Ifach. As in most Spanish seaside resorts, people expect beautiful beaches and Calpe will not disappoint you as there are not only beaches there are some secluded coves and bays. As with most beaches in Spain you will have many water sports on offer here such as windsurfing or scuba diving to name just a few that are found here with all the backup facilities you could ask for. The best beaches to visit are the Cala les Urques, Playa Puerto Blanco, Cala Calalga and Playa Cantal Roig. If you are feeling energetic the town's most famous and familiar feature is the huge rock known as Penon de Ifach. This huge rock reaches an altitude of 332 metres; this rock was declared a nature reserve in 1987 and as a result it is now home to a variety of birds and different flora and fauna. The real reason to visit this rock is to climb it. If you are elderly, disabled or prone to vertigo don't even think of climbing this thing. It is a great place to climb with viewing points to stop and take in the magnificent views over the countryside. The history buff will enjoy his trip to Calpe especially the old town where you will find ample evidence of Calpe's rich history in murals, monuments and museums. If you happen to be staying in the old part of town so much the better just imagine waking up to all this history every day. There are even some remains of Iberian tribes that date back an untold number of centuries BC found around that huge rock. Besides all the history, sun bathing and walking or climbing a huge rock Calpe is home to some of the finest golf courses in all of Spain. You will find just about any type of course here be it flat land or in the rolling countryside, just look around and you will find one that suits your game but be sure and bring your handicap certificate with you as they are required on most courses. We wouldn't want you to have to spend the day in the 19th hole while all your friends are out on the course or would we? When staying in Calpe on your COSTA BLANCA HOLIDAYS why not visit some of the other scenic villages close by where you can soak up the Spanish culture and heritage. They are all within a short drive or in some cases a short bus ride. There are villages such as Benitachell, Moraira Pego and even Teulada that are worth a day out.
