As camping and RV season rounds the corner, people will be prepping to head out into the woods and enjoy all that the great outdoors have to offer. The sad truth is that every year, some of these people will become lost, stranded, or become injured while in those same great outdoors. While nothing can prevent all of these things from happening, you can certainly make sure that you are as prepared as you can be in case it happens to you. So read on to find out what camping safety gear you should have with you when you head into the woods this summer. The first and most obvious thing that you need to bring with you whether you are the woods or just heading to work is a first aid kit. You should have one of these in the trunk of every car that you own. A first aid kit can provide lifesaving treatment when it counts the most. A good kit should only cost around $20 and will have everything from disinfectant swaps to Band-Aids to burn cream. If you have a first aid kit for camping already, go through it and make sure that it is well stocked and that the items in it are not too old or depleted. Make sure to replace anything that is expired or used up. The next item that you should have with you at all times is clean drinking water. You should have an emergency supply beyond your regular camping water supply. While you can survive many days without food, you can only survive a couple without water. This is why water is a critical safety supply, so make sure that you have plenty extra. Along this same vein, some water purification tablets or a water purifying pump are also a good thing to pack. These take up much less space and weight than the water itself and can make almost any water source safe to drink. The next items that you should always have at hand are matches, a compass, and a knife. These items are essential for survival and navigation. If you should become lost the compass will give you an idea of where you are headed especially when the sun is down. The matches will provide you with fire for food and warmth in an emergency, and the knife is a versatile survival tool and weapon. An emergency flashlight is a good survival item as well. You can get a single LED flashlight that will last for many hours on a small battery. You can also get crank or shake powered flashlights as well. These are great because the never need batteries, although they will cost you some calories to operate. Another important safety item is an emergency blanket. These foil blanket are very good at keeping in your body heat when it is cold. It is important to insulate yourself from the ground, as it will sap all of your body heat otherwise. Having two emergency blankets, one for underneath you and one for on top is ideal. So now that you are all geared up with safety gear, it is time to hit the woods, but before you do look into Nevada New & Used RVs and RVs and Motorhomes in Nevada.
