For centuries the orangery has been used, however it purposes have varied over time. They were typically used for growing oranges, lemons and other citrus fruit. Stone was the first material that was used to create orangeries, however nowadays the choice is a lot more varied. Double glazing is just one of the variations you can experiments with when you are designing your new orangery, the choices are now endless, you can have it made from any material you like and in almost any shape or style.rnStone was the original building material. This was one of the most abundant materials and also meant that the structure would remain sturdy. You can still find stone orangeries today, however people are starting to branch out and experiment with other materials such as metals and wood.rnAs the design world moves through the time, so does the way in which orangeries are designed and constructed, the use of timbre and glass is becoming more prevalent whilst still incorporating elements of masonry. The most commonly used timbre in orangery construction is oak. This works by the wood shrinking over time and in the weather in order for the wood to tighten, this means the structure will be a lot more sound. However, wooden and timber orangeries can prove to be very expensive so these should only be considered if you have a larger budget to play with.rnAlthough more prevalent in the construction of conservatories, uPVC is another building material you could use that would be much cheaper than some other materials, metals such as aluminium and glass are alternatives too. Aluminium is becoming more popular due to the fact it is less costly, strong and is very easy to work with. It is a lot more aesthetically pleasing that uPVC too. The use of aluminium came about during the Victorian era and has remained a popular choice for orangery designs and conservatories ever since. However, it does make it hard to control the temperature inside the orangery which means it may not be suitable for growing plants or using in the winter if you are not prepared to pay for the high energy bills.rnGlass is one of the main components in the modern day orangery. You will need plenty of glass in order to fully appreciate the benefits that the orangery will bring to you. Triple or double glazing will be the most suitable option for glass in your orangery as it will let the light flood in but also retain heat too, meaning you can save money on your energy consumption. If you use lots of glass in your orangery then you will also be able to enjoy looking outside at what is hopefully a pleasant view. Because your orangery will be bespoke and unique to you, you will be able to plan exactly how much of each material you want present in your orangery designs.
