Hydrosalpinx cannot heal on its own. It can lead to female infertility, and even with the assistance of in vitro fertilization (IVF), it can reduce the procedure's success rate. Many women discover they have hydrosalpinx after experiencing prolonged difficulty getting pregnant and undergoing medical examinations. Therefore, it is recommended that women who plan to conceive understand hydrosalpinx. Hydrosalpinx is caused by inflammation, ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis, and appendicitis, which result in adhesions at women's fimbrial or ampullary ends of the fallopian tubes. This causes the accumulation of inflammatory exudate in the dilated tubal cavity, forming hydrosalpinx. Hydrosalpinx is usually a sequela of pelvic inflammatory disease. Therefore, sexually active women of reproductive age who menstruate are more susceptible to pelvic inflammatory diseases, making them prone to developing hydrosalpinx. Unhygienic miscarriage, incomplete abortion, induced abortion, postpartum infections, and other factors can also contribute to developing hydrosalpinx. What are the symptoms of hydrosalpinx? Many patients with hydrosalpinx do not have obvious symptoms, and infertility may be the only symptom. Some patients may experience abdominal distension, fever, increased vaginal discharge, and prolonged menstrual periods as the accumulation of fluid increases. In severe cases with excessive fluid accumulation, symptoms such as chills, high fever, and a sensation of fluid flowing out of the vagina upon waking in the morning may occur. In some severe cases, enlarged fallopian tubes or distinct abdominal masses can be felt during gynecological examinations. However, when hydrosalpinx is detected through examinations, the condition is often already quite severe. Therefore, women should pay attention to sexual hygiene and undergo regular gynecological examinations and treatments. How does hydrosalpinx lead to infertility? Many infertile women discover that they have hydrosalpinx after undergoing medical examinations. On the one hand, hydrosalpinx can cause adhesion and blockage of the fallopian tubes, thereby hindering fertilization. On the other hand, hydrosalpinx contains microorganisms, lymphocytes, and certain toxic substances. Once hydrosalpinx refluxes into the uterine cavity, it can directly flush the embryo or affect the receptivity of the endometrium, thus affecting embryo implantation. It can also exert toxic effects on the embryo, reduce its growth ability, and even lead to embryo development arrest or death. This is why women undergoing assisted reproductive techniques, such as IVF, must undergo examinations and treatment for hydrosalpinx first. For the treatment of hydrosalpinx, conservative approaches are generally adopted initially, such as medication therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine like Fuyan Pill has shown good efficacy in treating hydrosalpinx. It can eliminate inflammation and alleviate symptoms in patients while increasing pregnancy chances. Prevention of hydrosalpinx is also essential. 1. Practice safe sexual behavior to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.rn2. Maintain sexual hygiene, especially refraining from sexual activity during menstruation.rn3. Boost the body's immune system to prevent the occurrence of inflammation.rn4. Seek timely and appropriate diagnosis and treatment for gynecological infections, especially infections in the lower reproductive tract.rn5. Minimize the number of uterine surgeries or procedures to reduce the risk of infection.rn6. Minimize unplanned pregnancies and avoid unnecessary abortion procedures as much as possible.
