Can Two Digits Ruin a Relationship?

Age is just a number. Raise your hand if you’ve heard that one before. Love conquers all. Also another one we’ve all heard (thank you, Shakespeare). But really, what is society’s take on age difference between couples? I mean let’s be real, not all of us are open to ten year age differences between couples. On the other hand, look at all of the successful celebrity couples we have as examples (sorry Demi and Ashton): Jay-Z and Beyonce, 12 years apart, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, 9 years apart, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, 12 years apart. I’m not saying we should base our lives around how they live theirs, but if they can overcome the age difference, why can’t we?

Older guys are sexy. Older women are more experienced. Usually, the older they are, the more financially stable they’ll be so that is yet another pro of dating older. But then when we’re in the situation we have all of the “what if” questions racing through our minds. What if they have kids? What if they’re ready to take things to the next level and you aren’t? All of these things are yes, complicated, but not necessarily cons. All of these issues can be dealt with according to what each individual couple decides.

The most important thing in these kinds of relationships (or in ANY kind of relationship) is that both sides of the relationship are aware of the reality of the situation, and are on the same page. For example, if you’re a 20 year old girl and have a 33 year old boyfriend, you can’t really expect him to go clubbing with you and all of your underage friends every weekend. Or if you’re the 33 year old boyfriend, you can’t expect your girlfriend to not go out with her friends. But if all of these issues are all cleared up, then what is there to stop you? Love is a strong feeling and unfortunately, you can’t help who you fall in love with no matter how old you are. So readers, I’m going to leave you with these thoughts in mind and let me know what you think. After all, true love is hard to come across, so if you’re already in it and MOST IMPORTANTLY happy, why quit it because of two simple digits?
