Yes, the Institute of Cancer Research showed findings on the cancer- fighting power of green tea. Drinking Green has properties that can give full protection to your body.

In fact the research shows that the major component in green tea may impede the cancer process more extensively than they realized. The phytochemical found in green tea gives many scientists the reason to explore green tea’s cancer fighting effects on a cellular level.

The “short-circuit effects” that green tea has on the cancer process is protection that extends to many different kinds of cells said Dr. Thomas Gasiewicz, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Environmental Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The active green tea substances called EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) seems to target one protein that is common throughout our bodies. It seems to work with “precision that cancer drugs still aren’t able to match.”

This protein is called HSP90, and it is present at high levels in many cancer cells.

The scientists believe that, in some circumstances, HsP90 helps to trigger the series of changes in cells that eventually lead to cancer. When green tea’s EGCG binds to this protein, it helps to prevent these changes from happening. “EGCG targets HSP90, binds directly to it and keeps it from passing on signals that can start the cancer process,” said Dr. Gasiewicz. As a result the potentially harmful genes are less likely to activate and cause cancer. This is a major factor because HSP90 is present in all of our cells.

Solving a Diet Cancer Mystery

If further research confirms that EGCG’s ability to bind to such a basic protein enables it to provide protection throughout our bodies, it explains a scientific mystery,” said Dr. Gasiewicz. Studies that track the diets of human subjects over several years especially those conducted in Asia where green tea consumption is commonly used seems to have lower risks for cancers that are vastly different from one another.

Asian data links green tea to reduced risk for breast, prostrate, bladder, colon, stomach, pancreatic and esophageal cancers. This finding shows that EGCG may be effective against an important “common denominator” for many different types of cancer, at the beginning of the cancer process.

EGCG in Green Tea versus Cancer Drugs Treatment

The EGCG in green tea is natural and acts with precision that scientists have not been able to duplicate in a drug. Cancer cells tend to have higher levels of the HSP90 than healthy cells, pharmaceutical researchers tried to develop a drug that keeps HSP90 from sending the biochemical signals that can trigger cancer. However nothing seems to work as effectively as green tea’s EGCG.

Another advantage that green tea has over the other types of teas, black and oolong is that green tea leaves are processed by baking or steaming before they can oxidize, so the EGCG level remains high. Regular green tea has more EGCG than decaffeinated type to compensate. The caffeine levels in 1 cup of green tea are lower (30 mg), compared to (43 mg) in black tea and (135-179) mg per cup of decaffeinated coffee. As you can see cup to cup, green tea is a winner with many advantages.

Boost up with Green Tea nutrient’s Benefits

From a survey conducted by American Institute of Cancer Research revealed that Americans rarely drink green tea, even though it is higher in beneficial phytochemical and lower in caffeine than black tea, or colas. Surprisingly, even those who said they drank it every day drank far smaller amounts than Asian populations.

Japanese and Chinese people drink an average of 3-4 cups of green tea daily per person. One percent of Americans are drinking the equivalent amount of (roughly 2-3 American-size cups) of green tea. About 7 in 10 Americans (68 percent) said they drank green tea rarely or never. In comparison to the Japanese only 8 per cent of Japanese people say that they drank green tea rarely or never.

Summary

Drinking some green every day is a good habit to practice because you are able to enhance the cancer protection we get from eating a diet high in plant foods and low in fat and salt.
