Many people claim Ohio is an ideal place for retirement because the cost of living in this state is much lower than in any other place in the country. However good that sounds, one has to check out Ohio long term care costs apart from the prices of basic necessities before deciding to move to this region.

Compared to its neighbors in the Midwestern part of the country Ohio’s cost of care is lower. For a home health aide, families in Ohio pay out $21 an hour while in Pennsylvania it’s $24, $23 in Michigan, and $24 in Wisconsin.

Nursing homes in Ohio have lower daily rates, too, compared to other states. For a private room, a Buckeye forks out $210 while a semi-private room is cheaper at $190.

Meanwhile, the rates of assisted living facilities in Ohio are increasing faster than those of other long term care (LTC) facilities as there had been an increased demand for this type of LTC facility in the past years. Right now, families are paying out $3,325 monthly, on average, for their loved ones receiving care in an assisted living facility.

Like in-home care, assisted living provides a frail elderly assistance with her activities of daily living (ADL) like eating, bathing, dressing, toilet use, continence, and transferring. Apart from custodial care, a patient can also depend on her caregiver when it comes to the maintenance of her place, washing of her dirty laundry, and cooking and preparation of her meals.

Treating Ohio Long Term Care Costs as Normal as Possible

On the subject of long term care people can’t help but feel threatened because this kind of health care service can wipe out their assets in no time.

Good thing Ohio’s living expenses are not as high as those of other U.S. states. This gives its residents the convenience to plan their LTC needs. Unlike most states in the northeastern region, Ohio’s residents enjoy low taxes and lower housing costs.

Its cost of living is actually 85% of the national average so you can imagine how much savings you can enjoy in this place. That huge savings, however, will only materialize if you are armed with a long term care insurance (LTCI) policy.

You see, long term care per se should not be treated as a financial burden if it’s the only thing an individual has to consider upon retirement. If everything else in the world is for free and one’s only expenses come from his LTC needs then there is no reason for people to plan.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. Even if people begin to acquire LTC they don’t stop paying for their houses nor do they stop eating, buying clothes, and having their homes repaired. LTC is not the end of one’s life, it just subjects him to bigger additional expenses that is why planning for the future is essential.

For Ohio long term care costs you can, perhaps, secure yourself with a good long term care insurance (LTCI) policy which does have a very high maximum daily benefit amount so you can save on the annual premium. Find time to discuss this with your family and trusted LTCI agent.
