Can You Beat The Odds?

Most everyone starts the year out fully motivated and excited about what they want to accomplish. But, what happens? Most end up fading out a few months in (if they even make it that long). I call them the New Year’s Resolution people. I used to see them at my gym. They’d join the beginning of the year with all sorts of great intentions. Truthfully, I used to hate that time of year because my gym would get packed, the parking lot would be full and the classes jammed. All sorts of people invading my space. I soon realized that most of them would be gone by mid-February. It didn’t matter how much weight they wanted to lose – most would be gone.

It’s the same with entrepreneurs. Everyone is busy writing their goals for 2014 and posting lots of inspirational quotes on facebook. How many will actually see those goals come true. According to most statistics, less than 30% will actually see the fruition of their dreams. I remember one of the first days in college sitting in an auditorium, the professor told us to look to our left…then look to our right …because one of the three of us wouldn’t make it to graduation.

Success really is a numbers game.

So what can you do to beat the odds?

I’m going to be sharing suggestions over the month during the Ultimate Blogging Challenge to help you change the percentages.

Here’s the first action step for you.

One of the most important things as you plan to move forward in your business is to be surrounded by like-minded supportive people – baoth personally and professionally.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many entrepreneurs I’ve spoken to that don’t have the support of their spouse/partner or family. That’s a warning sign for you that you are going to have a difficult climb ahead of you. If that’s the case, you may choose to “protect your energy” during any business conversations.

Now, look at the people that you socialize with. Do they believe in you or do they think what you do is a “hobby”, “cute” or a “passing phase”? Or, are they supportive and excited for you as you share what you are doing?

Lastly, look at the other entrepreneurs you hang out with. It’s been said that your income is the average of the 5 people you associate with the most. If you’re a tennis player, you are well aware of the philosophy of playing with people who are better than you. It’s the same with business; get to know the people who are at a higher level than you. One of the best ways of doing that is to promote them (become an affiliate for them).

You don’t need to wait until April to do “spring cleaning”. Take a good look at who’s in your life and how supportive they are. Make the necessary changes.
