A friend of mine who is a breast cancer survivor and activist (one of her many causes) recently asked me to write about cancer prevention and I agreed. It is indeed something that can’t be stated enough. If you smoke, try to stop and keep trying until it works. It’s one of the hardest addictions to beat but aside from the tar and nicotine, it pumps thousands of dangerous chemicals into your blood. The herbs, St Johns Wort and Mimosa can help the nerve while trying to quit. Both are available in my “Blissful Spirit” tincture. If you use alcohol, do it in moderation; over use of alcohol increases your risk of breast, kidney, colon and pancreatic cancer.
I recognize that I can’t cover all I want to in one newsletter, so in this issue I will just concentrate on contaminants in the food and water we consume that don’t get much press. These are little known, dangerous additives that we are exposed to which must avoid immediately.
You won’t hear this on the news because there is big industry backing these dangerous chemicals and there is a lot of money at stake. We tend to think that the FDA and the rest of the alphabet soup organizations that feed off our taxes will protect our food supply. But more and more they have proved to be more willing to fine organic farmers of wholesome, unadulterated foods while the large factory farmers and chemical companies who pollute our food with chemicals, consistently get a free pass.
In the next newsletter I promise I will cover the positive things you can do and supplements you can take to keep you healthy, strong and energetic. But the afore mentioned will help only if you end the flow of toxic substances that gain hidden access to your body though channels perhaps unknown to you.

Chemical Estrogen???

There is a group of hormone interrupters called xenoestrogens (which means “foreign estrogen”). They can be found in plastic, Styrofoam, pesticides, herbicides, birth control pills, (synthetic) Hormone Replacement Therapies, sun screens and many more commonly used products. When you ingest xenoestrogens, or apply them to your skin, they attach to your estrogen receptors and become stored in your fat. Your body can’t remove these petroleum-based hormones as easily as it can eliminate bio-identical hormones such as those that come from plants. In little girls, xenoestrogens cause premature puberty; in boys they can delayed puberty and stunt the growth in both sexes.
Here are some other things that you want to avoid: meat from animals raised on growth hormones and long antibiotics, Don’t use clear hard plastic like the substance of which baby bottles are made, and for heaven sakes never heat them. This leaches dangerous amounts of xenoestrogens into the food held within. Don’t heat anything in any kind of plastic; and I don’t mean, “avoid it,” I mea
DON”T DO IT EVER! That includes pre-made dinners trays, Tupperware, Ziplocs, microwave popcorn, plastic baby bottles, coffee and tea in plastic and Styrofoam cups. I think you get the picture. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is in the coating on the inside of many cans.

Baby Bottles-Sun Screen-Coffee Cups and Menopause

If you need HRT to get through menopause, use plant hormones and take them only as long as you need them. For sun screens, use a zinc oxide formula. It works by reflecting the sun’s rays. If you must use a weed killer use an organic brand. For birth control consider using an IUD that does not contain hormones. Drink your coffee on the go in a stainless steel travel mug. Bring it with you and when you stop at your favorite coffee shop, have them fill it for you. Use glass baby bottles, which can be heated with jeopardizing the bottle’s contents.

Teflon Poisoning

Never use Teflon or Silverstone. Go back to using stainless steel or cast iron because everything you cook in a nonstick pan is contaminated with carcinogens. Any bird organization will tell you that it is extremely dangerous to use Teflon. A single use can kill a healthy bird living in the house. Sadly, I found this out firsthand in 1987 when I received a Teflon pan as a Christmas gift.

A Nice Cool Glass of Toxic Waste

Fluoride is mined along with uranium and it is a by-product of the atomic bomb, aluminum and fertilizer industry. It is the key ingredient in many rat poisons and insecticides. Never take it internally! If you have city water there is a good chance that it contains fluoride and under the label of fluoride it could have up 300 more toxic chemicals. So get a good filtertration system and NEVER make baby formula with fluoridated water. Why is it still being put in our water? One could write a book on that subject alone. Who in their right mind would (at best) deliver a medication through tap water knowing there is no way to control the dose? And (at worst) why would we allow industrial waste in our tap water?

Sugar Substitute

Aspartame (NutraSweet) is a neurotoxin and saccharine which is a carcinogen. Don’t use them especially if you are pregnant! If you want to use a sugar substitute I suggest you use stevia. It is an herb that is safe and delicious.

Get the Good Stuff-You and Your Family deserve it!

As a rule, if you want to decrease your chance of getting cancer you would do well to buy food that is as close to natural as possible. Anytime you buy processed food you can be assured that it is full of fillers that no one in his or her right mind would eat if it weren’t hidden in something tasty. And wash ALL your vegetables before you consume them. Many (otherwise) healthy vegetables are sprayed with fluoride gas before they are shipped. It’s not clean unless YOU have washed it! Salad spinners are awesome and I highly recommend using them.
There is so much more that I would love to talk about but I think I’ve given you a good place to start. Please don’t take my word for; I urge you to educate yourself.
