Going green seems to have transcended the boundaries of just being a fashion statement to one that is a genuine call for people to finally realize the importance of reducing their carbon footprints and their effects on global climate change. Taking control of our individual carbon footprint is the biggest step in eliminating the threat of greenhouse emissions to the environment but modern strategies has also enabled us to reduce these through other means.
The use of Carbon Offsetting Companies is a relatively new method of decreasing the overall carbon footprint of individuals or organizations. This works by “offsetting” greenhouse emissions through the use of renewable sources of energy in another location. Organizations with a large carbon footprint for example may indirectly reduce their greenhouse emissions by hiring the services or funding carbon offsetting companies to decrease their carbon profile.
Carbon offsetting services are places where you can trade your “points” by funding green projects such as alte
ative energy or reforestation projects. These might be projects that reduce the greenhouse emissions from another location that balances your individual or organizations carbon footprint. This shouldn't promote the idea that companies can then produce more carbon and offset it in the hope that everything will be OK. Generally a company that considers its energy consumption will find that there are savings to be had by reducing energy usage; In fact selling the idea of becoming green to any company is easier when demonstrating how it will improve the bottom line.
Carbon offsetting companies helps you contribute to the global effort of reducing the effects of rising greenhouse gases while allowing your organization to reduce your own emissions in a timely manner that is acceptable for your business.
The logic for this new strategy is the notion that an overall concerted effort helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions rather than forcing businesses or organizations to make unreasonable and drastic changes that may affect productivity. Engaging in carbon offsetting can be done voluntarily helping business get that elusive green stamp that helps promote their business. This also gives a new dimension to the global effort of controlling greenhouse emissions.
The application of carbon offsetting is still a controversial issue as many detractors have questioned their effectiveness in reducing global carbon emissions. Some contend that buying credits in order to comply with greenhouse restrictions allows organizations to continue with their previous practices.
