Carbs to Help You Lose Weight
To lose weight, we need to have a balance in all food groups. Carbohydrates are as important in weight loss as good fats, fiber and proteins. Kids and adults need carbs alike. The body breaks these into simple sugars making up the greatest source of energy for it. Fad diets have misled alot of people claiming that carbs are harmful in weight loss. This is not the case, in fact, we need carbs for proper organ function, for energy in physical activity and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Scientists have claimed before that carbs can help you lose weight. they claim that you need to choose good sources of carbs, arguing that these sources need to have tightly packed sugar molecules not easily broken down by enzymes in the mouth and intestines. Great sources of carbs include:
- Sweet potatoes
- Whole grain pasta
- Fruits
- Brown rice
- Vegetables
- Beans and lentils
- Oatmeal
- Whole grains among others
These carbs help you eat less while burning more calories. This is the key to succeed in weight loss. Elimination of unhealthy carbs should be your first goal. White bread is harmful to your weight loss routine. This is why, when you eat white bread, you eat something your body doesn't need. Hence it contributes to belly fat and hence all the pot bellies you see around. Replace this with the more healthier brown bread. You may also want to get rid of chips, pretzels, crackers, cookies, biscuits and the like from your diet if you want to lose weight easily. This is a no brainier really, replace bad carbs with good carbs. Do not get rid of carbs.
1 gram of carbohydrates contains 4 calories. For you to lose weight, you need to eat below your calorie maintenance level. In your calculations, carbs should make up around 25% of what you eat. Here are some tips to help you lose weight fast and easily, while keeping it away:
1. Start your day with whole grain: whole grains are a great source of energy. You eat less, burn more and fight hunger pains at the same time. Great sources of whole grains that i have found include cereal. I always start my day with a bowl of cereal. Choose cereal that is low in fat, low in sugar and high in fiber. Also, use whole wheat bread instead of white bread.
2. Use sweet potatoes with unsweetened tea in the morning. I recommend having a break fast of champions. If you start your day well, it will end well. Incorporate this into your breakfast for a more healthier boost.
3. Get brown, leave white: in weight loss and dieting, your goal is to slim, to lose that belly fat and look good forever. White is an enemy when it comes to weight loss foods. Replace white refined rice for brown rice. Use whole wheat breads for snacks in place of the white breads and buns.
4. Choose fruit over juice: fruit has more fiber and less sugar than juice. This should be a wise decision on your part. You will get more vitamins, fiber and other nutrients for great health.
Weight loss is about eating healthy. Most of us relate carbs with getting fat but on the contrary, there are good sources of carbs to help us lose weight and reach our weight loss goals.
