Carpets are tricky to clean. If a stain gets in there, it gets really difficult to get out. Also the fact that carpet is a textile stuck to the floor doesn’t help matters either! If you spill something on it, it's not easily ‘mopped up’ and then we are stuck with those vacuum cleaners in our hands, viciously trying to get the dust balls out of the carpet. All of it can be hectic and tiring considering the hectares that carpet is covering of your house! One way to go about keeping your carpet clean and free of stains is to take care of it on a daily basis rather than waiting for the bottleneck to get blocked. Vacuum it on a regular basis if not daily; that way at least you will be dust free. Then get your house a beautiful and sustainable entrance matt; and make sure everybody wipes their feet on it! DO NOT EXEMPT ANYONE! This way the people stepping on your carpet won’t be leaving tracks of soil on their way behind.
In the scenario, where there appears a stain on your carpet, avoid rubbing it. You will only succeed in spreading the stain, making it more permanent and destroying the fiber of the carpet. Now the stains that are not treated properly, will reappear sometime later, you will notice that he stain you cleaned up, still exists on your carpet. This may have happened due to careless cleaning up so in case you have not paid enough attention the first time around, be very vigilant the next time. Take a wet cloth and place it on the stubborn stain; weigh it down with something heavy for the night. Hopefully, the stain will give way by the next morning. Avoid using Hairspray or iron to dry up the wet part of the carpet. Be patient and wait or else you will just worsen things as opting for either of these ‘quick’ drying methods strengthens the stain and leaves it there to live ina part of your carpet for happily ever after. You don’t want that to happen. So do not allow it.
Then try getting it steam cleaned every four to six months. Either call in a professional carpet cleaner to do it for yourself or you can do it yourself as well by using a deep cleaning machine. Both the methods have their pros and cons and you would need to look into them before opting for either option. Where you can save a lot of money by doing I yourself, you can get a better result by calling in a professional. For bad cases of stains, try using lemon juice mixed with slat or hydrogen peroxide depending on your carpet fiber. Mostly water works perfectly well for getting maximum spill stains out but if it doesn’t work out then expand your research. Go out in the market and you will find a whole Disneyland of cleaning products waiting for your picking.
