The Islamic revolution of Iran is commonly called as the Iranian revolution which occurred in the year 1979; hence some sources mention it as the 1979 revolution. Like all revolutions, even this was a struggle wherei
Iranian monarchy was displaced, which paved the path for Iran to become a republic.
Apart from the general public of revolutionaries, the main facets of the story were Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the monarch (shah) of Iran and the famous revolutionary leader - Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini is famous for being in some prophecies of the most famous astrologer in history, the great French occult psychic, Nostrdamous.
Start of the Revolution
From the commo
Iranian’s point of view, shah’s reign was oppressive and corrupt but what hurt the people more were points like – being extravagant and western. The shah was considered the puppet of Western power.
Death of Khomeini's son Mostafa and the Cinema Rex Fire also were major points in the initial part of the protests. October 1977 saw the start of demonstrations against the Shah which slowly developed in a campaign comprising of civil resistance. Unlike other civil resistances, religious rage was a part of this movement. Demonstrations soon turned into strikes which struck the backbone of the Iranian economy. In January 1978, half a dozen theology students were allegedly killed by the security forces in Qom.
Shah’s reign gave impetus to an ambitious economic program which instead of development, brought inflation and economic shortages. The strikes were the worst thing to happen to a country which was already facing economic hardships.
The protests took an ugly turn when hundreds of protestors were massacred at Juleh Square (Tehran) in September 1978. The magnitude of the protest can be made by the following comment from the security forces - there were literally too many protesters to arrest. It was during these protests and strikes that the world attention suddenly tilted towards Iran. Iran was like a ticking bomb during the years of 1978/79.
Finally, the shah went into exile in January 1979 as his forces were just not able to control the revolution. After exile, Khomeini returned in February 1979 to lead Iran towards being a republic.
