There are many varied triggering factors for Telogen Effluvium. For instance, it often happens to women after they give birth to their offspring. There are certain hormonal changes during and after pregnancy that ends up with a shock to hair follicles due to which they shut down for some time. There can be severe hair shedding but in most of the cases the hair regrow. This hair loss due to hormonal changes is commonly called as Postpartum Alopecia. However, some people face persistent form of Telogen Effluvium due to some persistent underlying causes. For instance, chronic diseases might lead to severe conditions of TE. There are two main causes of Telogen Effluvium that are commonly found to be the culprits behind hair loss. One is diet deficiency and the other one is chronic stress. A number of studies have shown that excessive stress can have very negative effects on hair growth and can even lead to persistent form of Telogen Effluvium. Researches on animals have backed up this claim. This can be explained as when the stress levels rise, there is a change in follicle biochemistry due to which more of them enter into the resting phase also known as the telogen phase. Dietary problems are also blamed for causing Telogen Effluvium in people. We hardly are aware of what a proper balanced diet is. We often miss on taking all the essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids. We always miss on some really important nutrients almost daily. Dermatologists believe that people rarely take balanced diets when they reduce red meat intake and focus more on a vegetarian diet. When a diet is not complete, it will automatically affect one’s hair and overall body health. Red meat is considered to be the main source of iron but people now-a-days try to avoid it. Women specifically are considered to be more iron deficient because of their monthly menstruation cycle. There are certain deficiencies that are closely linked with Telogen Effluvium. Lack of iron, zinc, vitamin B6 & B12 and amino acids heavily contribute to this form of hair loss. In case of nutritional deficiencies, supplements are normally suggested. However, these supplements are sometimes problem creators. For instance, over-intake of iron can cause hair loss.
