Before we tell you about chef coats, think about this. Would you prefer to be called the "king of the chefs" or "chef of the kings?" Ponder over the question and you'd find there is hardly a difference between the two. Why? Because only the king of the chefs would be called upon to become the chef of the kings!

Ok, this isn't a puzzle page. But, you'd certainly want to know how some chefs, with a finely tailored chef coat on him or her, make history with their cookery shows. Antoine Careme is one such chef. He was the king of culinary in the 18th century. He became famous not only for his cooking skills, but also for his writing skills on cooking. Read "The art of French Cooking" and you'd know. Whether it is planning the menu, or setting the table, or preparing a variety of French recipes, the book has it all. Thanks to this literary work of his, Antoine Careme is known as the Father of the Art of French Cookery.

Now, this is the stuff that a real chef is made up of. Apart from donning high-class chef coats and working in hi-tech kitchens, the chef should have the knack to blend simple ingredients into a masterpiece for the taste buds.

Cooking is not simply catering to the taste buds. It is about creating an effect on all your senses. The sight food presented on the plate, the smell of those spices, the sound of vegetables simmering in the pan, and the touch of food on the tongue - all these make for a grand dining experience.

Cooking Shows

Julia Child was the first chef to break the ice and put food on television. With the telecast of "The French Chef" in 1963, cookery shows became a milestone in the career of chefs. Also, chef coats got more attention than any other piece of clothing.

For somebody to host his or her own show, they ought to be professionals. For a chef to be called a professional, he or she must have attended cooking classes and worked in a hotel, resort, or club kitchen. The ability to spend hours in the hot kitchen, blending recipes for simple to exotic dishes, and creating their own in the process make the "culinary experts" to be able to don the celebrity chef coats.

Qualities of Celebrity Cooking Experts

* They are highly experienced in the use of spices, sauces, and pans.
* They attend catering classes to polish their natural cooking skills.
* They are trained under a celebrity chef or in a happening restaurant.
* Some of them own a restaurant.
* Aspiring chefs work under them.
* Most of them have written books on cooking.
* They love food; they love experimenting with food and serving people with their best edible creations.

Ah! There are also celebrity chefs like Miguel Maestre, who love to cook controversies, along with their food! Mr. Maestre's ex-boss, Mr. Nelson Ng, accused Mr. Maestre of threatening to kill him after they had a tiff in their working relations. Forget chef coats and suits, there are times when the chefs get obsessed with what's brewing in the courtroom, rather than the kitchen!
