These days, business process outsourcing is becoming highly popular and at the same time competitive as well. Companies round the globe hire the services of BPO companies to reduce their operational costs and increase revenue. This has expanded the BPO business far beyond its margins. However, along with this phenomenal growth, many new challenges for business process outsourcing companies have also evolved.

Some Facts about Business Process Outsourcing

In order to successfully run a business or a company, many different activities have to be performed on a daily basis. Among them are data entry work, invoicing, account and finance management, document scanning, data conversion and document conversion, transaction processing, and much more. Earlier, these tasks were handled in-house. With rising business demands, companies had to find alternatives to release excess staff and cut down their infrastructure cost. Here emerged the need of BPO services.

The primary aim of business process outsourcing is to hand over or delegate the office work or non core activities of the company to a third party, especially in offshore locations. By doing so, the company will get enough time and resources to concentrate on its productivity side. An organization that outsources can save up to 60% of the operational cost. Depending upon the need, either a front office or a back office outsourcing service can be chosen. As the name suggests, a front office BPO concentrates on services related to customers while the latter links with internal business functions.

Besides this, several other benefits are also associated with business process outsourcing companies.

  • Improved operational efficiency and productivity
  • Saves time
  • Increment in revenue and profit
  • Availability of expertise at nominal rate

Are There Any Potential Challenges Involved?

Because of the above mentioned benefits, the BPO industry is showing a tremendous upsurge in the recent years. At the same time, a few challenges are also emerging.

  • Employee Attrition

Providers of business process outsourcing services are confronted by high employee attrition rate. The possible reason behind this is the monotonous and tiresome nature of work, comparatively low pay scale, and lack of career growth. Moreover, the stiff targets and night shifts have created many psychological and physical problems among the employees. This has immensely affected the attrition rate.

  • Market Repercussion

Business process outsourcing companies are mushrooming in developing countries such as Philippines, India and China. This has opened up a lot of job openings, which in a way has improved the economy of these countries. Because of this, developed countries such as Europe and the United States have come up with an anti-outsourcing movement, which has affected the BPO sector.

  • Security Concerns

According to the survey conducted by NASSCOM, many ITES and IT outsourcing business projects failed in India and Philippines due to the lack of security measures that were adopted by BPO companies.

Despite these issues and challenges for business process outsourcing companies, the future of BPO business is bright. The potential of 60-80% reduction in operational cost is very much compelling to the clients, especially in the global sector. Therefore, businesses still go for business process outsourcing with a view to enhancing productivity and profit.
