Working in the Search engine optimisation industry you may be well used to having to change your approach to the job when things change. It is so crucial for you to be well prepared to learn new things constantly in Search engine optimisation to give yourself a chance of being as in the know as all of the other great Search engine optimisation experts out there. Now that we are into 2011 we are starting to see a few changes to the way people are operating in terms of their Search engine optimisation, and to be truthful there are few surprises. A fairly unsurprising change is the fact that page rank is even less important when it comes to showing the quality of a web site. Of course many people working in SEO already knew this from last year, but it is more of an issue now that we stride into 2011. The difficulty is not having to recognise this. You may find it difficult though to explain to your client why you are directing them towards sites which do not necessarily have great page rank. The relevance of the site is the most critical thing when it comes to gaining links, but the hard thing is explaining this to clients!
It is likely that the biggest change to your work this year is going to be explaining the changes in SEO to your clients. You have to find out what they want, and make sure that they can see how you are going to get results for them. If you can't explain why you are doing what you are doing for your client, it is going to be difficult for them to understand why you are doing it. It is well worth your while as an SEO professional to take time out to help your clients by fully explaining the notion of page rank and why it is not so important any more. Having this conversation could be difficult but it will be worth the effort once you have a client who understands what you are trying to achieve for them and why.
You will find that once your client understands your work a bit more they will be in control of the forward motion of their business which will put them at ease. The thing to remember for 2011 is to be transparent all the time. This is equally important in terms of the people you work for and the search engines. This year you have three things to remember. Firstly do all you can for your client, secondly, teach your clients about the work you are doing, and thirdly sell your plans to them based on their new found knowledge.
