It is not an unusual sight to see mums and dads running around or yelling at their young children, asking them and warning, not to do this and stop doing that. It might look like an angry outburst but a deeper insight into the matter would reveal that the warnings are being given, for the child's wellbeing. With constant reminders and attention, kids will learn about rights and wrongs. As youngsters, they are not very aware of the outcomes of their actions. For example, it's an entirely unfamiliar risk to youngsters that they could drown in a bathtub of water, even with merely a couple of inches of water. Similarly they are not conscious of the risks of asphyxiation, when using face clothes and towels. These are factors that children simply do not understand and will need to learn by constant reminders from parents and guardians. Reminding young children about the risks and making sure they become aware of water safety as they grow up is a good step towards improving the safety of the children. For parents, the children’s safety at and around home is a significant concern, and there are numerous precautions to consider to create a safe environment. The penalty of accidents vary considerably by age and developmental stage, reflecting differences in a child’s ability to understand and learn, what is around them. Unintentional injury is one of the biggest single causes of death over the age of 1, according to studies in The UK. Every year, one million children under the age of eighteen , are taken to A & E centers, after being involved in accidents in the home. Kids explore their everyday surroundings. So it’s important to check things out from their viewpoint to make sure your home is safe. Supervision is the best way to prevent accidents in the home. A number of easy ways to stop accidents in the home could be: · Never leave young kids in the bathtub without assistance or guidance. Cuddledry bath towels are great help for bath time safety. · Don’t put soft beddings or toys in cots, to diminish the risk of asphyxiation. · Keeping choking hazards, toxic, and hot and sharp objects out of reach. · Install knob covers on doors to non-child proofed spaces such as terrace/gardens/balconies. · Use stair gates. · Don’t use walkers on uneven surfacesrn· Preventing poisoning at home is an important safeguard to be provided to youngsters. · Ingestion of medication, cleaning products, alcohol, or cosmetic can be life threatening. Choking is easier in children because of small airways. · Prevention of burns is of prime importance because hot water burns are amongst the most frequent accidents. · Regulation of hot water temperature in the bathroom. · Precautions when cooking. · Avoiding drinking hot beverages with the child sitting on your lap are measures against scalding burns. · Cuts can be caused from knives, scissors, blades and sharp objects, and hence should be kept away from childrenrn· Drowning is a constant risk for toddlers. · The child should never be left alone in the bathroomrn· Babies, infants and children can easily fall from stairs. · Danger of accidental strangulation of an infant can be discarded by taking cautious measures by avoiding all strings, cords, garment drawstrings, ribbons etc. · Animal bites are as well a risk for children at your or friends homernTo keep youngsters secure at home, you have to learn to anticipate danger before an accident happens. Using such precautionary advice, which keeps the kids protected is not only good for the children, but also keeps the parents happy and free from stress.
