Many of us will remember long hard winters of yesteryear, when Jack Frost made his appearance on the inside of our windows every morning, weaving leafy patterns for us to breathe on when we woke up. Fun times actually, when the tip of your tongue got stuck on the iciness on the window, causing us to laugh out loud, but nonetheless punishingly cold.
Such a perishing cold that it affected the health of children badly. Bronchitis, asthma, laryngitis, tonsillitis - all were features of childhood when we let winter take a grip inside the house. Of course central heating changed much of that and with its advent our health improved dramatically, but at a great price.
Our homes were not well equipped to embrace central heating to its optimum benefit. We had to pay through the nose to keep our houses warm or suffer inadequate and intermittent levels of warm whilst still paying too much. Sash windows, beautiful to look at, with single panes of glass or, windows with the glass sealant chipping and cracking over the years, do not keep the heat in. They are a massive source of heat loss and your household heating bills will prove that. The modern world may have dispensed of old Jack Frost but such technological necessities as Double glazed windows have brought a new benchmark to family living - making the family home, safe warm secure and energy efficient.
You may have wished for double glazed windows recently especially during some of the coldest spells. You may have noticed that your home is unable to retain its heat and you are spending hundreds of pounds keeping your heating on high. If that is so then you know you have problems.
As the snow blizzards outside, you may start to wonder where the draught is coming from. So you venture towards the living room window with arm outstretched following the cold to its source. If you feel as though you are slipping your arm through the wardrobe and into Narnia, before Aslan made his return, then it is probably time to consider double glazed windows.
Double glazed windows with a double sheet of glass with its internal vacuum renders your windows far stronger than those with a single pane of glass. When someone throws a snowball at your window, there is very little danger of it cracking your glass. There is the added advantage of also of your new installation helping reduce the noise from outside, maybe not the main consideration, but a benefit that is delightful especially if you live on a main road and suffer the noise of traffic or a road where late night revellers tend to congregate. I look back on my childhood with lovely memories but I do so now in the wonderful secure warmth of my chill free family home. Bliss.
