All one ought to know about fleas

Fleas are pesky bloodsucking creatures that are annoying as well posing a risk to pet’s health. They thrive in moist, warm climates and environments. Their main food is drinking blood of both humans and pets. Indoor cats and dogs are equally prone to flea attacks as other pets. They can enter one’s home at any point of time.

Fleas are also found in places where pets spend a maximum of their outdoor time such as dog houses, under porches, patios among others. These parasites if not treated on time can turn hazardous for the pets. With natural flea control products, pet owners no longer need to worry about the health of their beloved friend.

Keep pets away from fleas naturally

  • Raw garlic: garlic is an effective natural flea control method. It works wonders as an effective flea repellent. It makes the dog’s and cat’s blood unappealing to the fleas. For best results, crush one garlic clove and mix it in the cat or dog’s food every day to prevent fleas.
  • Rosemary Flea Dip: in a pan of boiling water steep 2 cups fresh rosemary for about half an hour. Strain this concoction and discard the leaves. Mix this in a gallon of warm water as per the dog’s weight and size. Wait till it cools yet warm. Pour this over the dog till he is soaked and allow him to dry naturally. This is one of the most effective flea control products.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar added to a dog’s water turns their skin acidic thereby preventing fleas to bite them. Alternatively pet owners can also mix 50/50 of water and apple cider vinegar and use it as a repellent. This is a good flea control.
  • Disinfect the pet’s atmosphere: fleas lay eggs everywhere ranging from cracks and crevices, animal bedding, upholstery, carpets or curtains. Destroying these flea eggs via frequent washing of pet's bedding and weekly vacuuming reaches deep into the root cause of the problem, thereby aids to eliminate the flea population in the house. Post vacuuming; make it a point to throw the bag immediately. Also keep clutter in the house to a minimum for depriving the fleas of their hiding place. This is one of the best flea control products.
  • Citrus oil: this acts as a natural flea preventive. Put 4 cut lemons in sufficient amount of water, cover it and bring it to boil. Simmer the lemons at least for 45 minutes, let it cool and then strain. Use this on the dog’s fur while brushing to aid all the oil to penetrate into the skin. Allow the pet to dry and again rebrush. This is also a good flea control.
