Happiness is not out there. It does not need a partner, job, children, or pets to exist. Happiness is within you. It is your natural state. Your divine essence is a happy one. Yet, you may have forgotten this. No need to worry – most of us have. We live in a world that makes unhappiness, lack and strife the norm. But in this instance, what is “normal” is not actually natural. You are a joy-filled being who is here to have an ever-expanded version of life and joy. Choose to reconnect with your true divine essence. Choose happiness. Even when things fall apart, there is something to be happy about. In the midst of death and dying, be happy about the love and compassion that you see and feel. At the end of a relationship, be happy about what you have learned, how you have grown, and how you are now releasing what doesn’t fit you for a relationship that will. During poor physical health, be happy about the parts of your body that are working and healthy. Pay them mind. Here are three tips to help you choose happiness now: 1. Notice what exactly is making you unhappy. Unhappiness has many faces. It can look like boredom, malaise, irritation, chaos, or just feeling blue. If you start to notice these feelings creep up, take a few moments to write down all of the specific things that are making you unhappy. 2. Take responsibility. Look over your list. Where do you blame other people or things for your unhappiness? Each time you blame another for “causing” your unhappiness, you give away your power. Instead, reclaim your power. Look at each of the items you’ve listed and see what YOU could do differently to get the results you want. If there is nothing left for you to do, then take responsibility by accepting the reality of situation and making a decision about how to let go of your expectations or the situation. 3. Change your focus. Once you understand what makes you unhappy and take responsibility for your part in it, focus on what brings you joy. Ask yourself, “What’s a more joyful and empowering way for me to look at this situation?” Focus on the lessons learned, or your commitment to take more empowering action. Focus on how much you have grown. Search for a new happier perspective about the situation that you can actually believe. It may only be a small shift at first. That’s great! Eventually each small shift turns into a great big new attitude! Happiness is a choice. It’s a choice that you must consistently and vigilantly uphold at first. Over time, you will find that you have reclaimed your natural ability to feel happy most of the time. Are yo willing to choose happiness now?
