There are various products in the market to suit different needs that your home may require when you’re painting. To start with, there are primers that you need to choose from which differ on the basis of whether you’re wall painting interior or exterior walls. For interior walls there are primers that help to block stains, primers that help to give the final coat a uniform look and those that help act as vapour barriers or simply help to bond the colour paint to the wall. These are primers that are either oil based or latex based. Oil based primers are also called alkyd products and latex based primers are also known as water based products. These can be used differently depending primarily on what your own needs are. For exterior walls, there are primers that help in preventing wood and metals from getting damaged by the elements.

Paints can be classified as either water based or oil based and each kind has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, if you are environmentally conscious, you may want to use water based products as these tend to have lower levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). High levels of VOC could have a negative impact on the health of residents, so remember that when you’re choosing your products for home painting. In the matter of appearance, you have the option of choosing products which give various finishes. The product’s finish depends on the manufacturer and whether the instructions for the product have been followed the right way, so be sure to read the instructions given by the manufacturer. Matte paints are those with the least amount of sheen, but are excellent if you want to hide any imperfections on you walls.

If you want your home painting to seem glossy, though, you can choose from products which differ on the level of sheen that appears on the wall. Eggshell has more of sheen than matte, but is slightly less useful while hiding imperfections on your walls. The next level of gloss would be satin. It has a glossier appearance when compared to either matte or eggshell. Semi-gloss and gloss are the kinds of products that you want if you want a fine sheen to appear. They can also be cleaned without the same level of damage to appearance which matte would undergo. But on the other hand, these are the worst products that you could depend on to hide any imperfections when house painting. Now that you’re armed with knowledge about the different products that you could use, go ahead and choose how to paint your home!
