Choosing a Teenage Fragrance

It is at around the age of fourteen or fifteen that teenage girls start to become interested in cosmetics and fragrances. But finding the correct perfume to suit this age range is quite difficult. In order to choose the right perfume, it’s important to understand the five generic types of fragrance available and who they suit.

The first type is referred to as Woody. Generally woody fragrances incorporate earthy tones such as moss or tree bark. An example of a woody fragrance would be Giorgio’s Beverly Hills Red. Woody fragrances tend to linger both on the skin and in the surrounding air and convey a certain level of sophistication. The third type of fragrance is known as Green and is generally a lot lighter in fragrance than woody or oriental perfumes. They tend to offer a hint of freshly cut grass and are more neutral in scent than other fragrances – although they can be a good choice for teenagers, they are generally seen as sensible fragrances so are more suited to office wear. The fourth type of fragrance is Floral and is reminiscent of flowers as the name suggests. They are light in scent and are ideal for everyday wear by all age ranges, including teenagers.

The final type of fragrance is Fruity. As the name suggests fruity fragrances are often packed with juicy tones such as blackberry, mandarin or mango. Due to their fun nature, fruity perfumes are ideal for teenagers with examples including Sheer by Paris Hilton and Dolce and Gabbana’s L’Eau The One.

In reality, a lot of perfumes combine fragrance types to form exciting combinations such as the oriental-floral perfume Lou Lou by Cacharel or the floral-fruity Heiress by Paris Hilton. When looking for a fragrance suitable for teenagers, therefore look for ones which include floral or fruity tones.
