Choosing a search engine optimisation company is one of the most important online marketing decisions which you will make. You may understand the potential which search engine optimisation (SEO) offers for your business, but choosing a poor search engine optimisation company may actually be completely counterproductive; a waste of money, time and even being detrimental to your websites search engine prominence. Choosing a Search Engine Optimisation Company Black Hat or White Hat? The main factor to consider when choosing a search engine optimisation company is whether they employ white hat or black hat SEO tactics. As you know, search engine optimisation involves targeting your online marketing and website content on particular keywords with the intention of improving the prominence of your website in the search engine results pages. This can be done with sustainable, ethical white hat techniques, or using unethical black hat techniques. Black hat search engine optimisation bases itself upon content which is of little to no interest to human visitors. When search engines like Google become wisened to each particular black hat technique and change their algorithm to punish such websites (this happens regularly), websites dramatically drop in rankings and can even be blacklisted by Google. A search engine optimisation company which uses black hat SEO techniques may build your websites rankings, but be warned that these might be very temporary and damaging in the long run. Black Hat SEO: There are a number of black hat search engine optimisation methods. Keyword stuffing is the phrase used to refer to text which has too many keywords, rendering it unreadable to humans and specifically targeted at search engines. Hidden text involves keywords being hidden on your website, and a black hat search engine optimisation company will use design features to hide the keywords from the human reader. Other popular techniques involve the use of doorway/gateway pages, cloaking (when search engines see a different page to human users), using mirror websites and link farming. All of these are lazy SEO techniques which are not employed by good search engine optimisation companies. White Hat SEO: A white hat search engine optimisation company will create interesting, original articles and press releases which implement keywords, but not excessively. They are likely to enhance your websites content, page titles, meta descriptions and such using keywords relevantly, ensuring that everything which they write is focussed on human readers, not search engines. The results shown by a white hat search engine optimisation company are going to be long-term positive changes which will not be penalised in the future. Therefore, it is important to ensure that your search engine optimisation company uses only white hat SEO techniques. Ask potential agencies which techniques they are going to use to boost your rankings, and ensure that they are ethical. This way your business can enjoy the benefits of search engine optimisation effectively.
