Before using this type of flooring there are some things that you should consider first to help you choose the best porcelain tile.

• The hardness rating-this is determined by a unique system from The Porcelain Enamel Institute and is called the PEI Scale. Normally the harder the tiles are the more durable they will be. They are also the most expensive. The PEI Scale rates the porcelain from zero to five. The hardest is five so if you want porcelain flooring tiles that will last several years in spite of high foot traffic you should choose a hardness of four or five. For low foot traffic areas you can go with a lower rate.
• The finish of the porcelain flooring tile-when talking about finish you need to decide if you want to keep the luster to a minimum or do you want it shiny. One thing to note is that when shiny tiles become wet they can become slippery so it may be better to keep the shiny porcelain tiles on the wall as a kitchen backsplash or in the shower or around the tub. The tiles that have a textured or matte finish is the better choice for the floor, especially if you are going to use it as a bathroom or kitchen floor.
• The overall appearance-this refers to the color, design and shape of the porcelain flooring tile. Most of the tiles is easily found in a square shape but you can also find tiles that are triangular or rectangular in shape. The triangular shape is good for any tile that features a design because it can break up the typical look that the square tiles gives. Some of the interesting designs that you can find include the appearance of marble, stone, and hardwood. Porcelain flooring tiles can also be found in a variety of colors, which is great for those that do not want the typical white floors in their bathroom or whatever room you are putting the flooring in.
Make sure that after you have installed your porcelain flooring tiles that you clean it on a regular basis in order to make it last longer. This type of floor tile has stain resistance property but you should still wipe up any stain immediately. To keep it nice looking all you need to do is sweep and mop the floor.
