This weekend I was out in the garden when I realized the spilt rail fence system we have had blown over in the incredibly hard winds we had recently experienced. Then and there I realized that a wood fence was not going to work for my need anymore. The split rail fencing was incredibly rough looking and was literally falling apart. It was time to search for a new fence system. rnWe need a fence. Our home is on a river so if we do away with the fence all together we would have so many worries about trespassing. The problem is that there is a lot of moisture, dampness and shade trees. This has caused the split rail to rot away much faster than if we had a yard filled with sunshine. It is going to be in our best interest to do away with wood materials and move into another realm of fencing. The hard part is that we would like to keep with the natural feel and landscape of the land.rnThis is how we came to research out our available fencing options. The first option we looked into is decorative metal fencing. Ornamental decorative fencing is beautiful. It comes in different sized panels and is able to be customized to most any landscape. Another advantage to metal fence for us is that it holds up much better in areas of shade where sun is not drenching it daily. The sun allows the fence to decay much faster and then maintenance will be needed making the maintenance free quality of the fence disappear. Another quality of decorative fence is that it can be freshened up quickly with the use of a power washer, some paint and simple modifications to the hardware.rnAnother option we looked at is vinyl fence. Vinyl fencing also comes in a variety of sizes. If you are looking for complete privacy vinyl fencing offers this option. However, it also offers an option in regards to the little white fence many of us dream of having. It is easy to maintain but does not come in as many style options as metal fences. rnWe instantly fell in love with the concept of the little white fence. We were not all that concerned with privacy in the sense that I did not want people to be able to see into the yard. It was less important than getting a barrier that let people know this was a yard, not a park and that it was not public property. The split rail we were replacing was about three feet high and so we went with a vinyl white fence that stood at a similar height. This was advantageous because our landscaping was already built around this fencing height. rnWe had the fence installed and it looks simply amazing. It is durable and easy to clean. The hose takes most gunk off that is flung from the elements. This is a major advantage for us. Another advantage is that if a section is somehow damaged it is simple to replace with a matching piece and was a much less expensive option in comparison to the decorative metal fence. Fencingneeds to match your homes style. This can be done using metal or vinyl what is important is that you are satisfied the choice you have made and that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for your family.
