As He prepared to go back to heaven, Jesus told His Apostles, “When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). At the Presbytery of New Hope’s meeting to vote on the ordination of homosexuals in February of 2009, Katie Ricks of the Church of Reconciliation in Chapel Hill, NC came to the microphone and told the gathered Presbyterians of her ministerial role at her church, of her love for her female partner, and of her desire to be ordained. Katie followed a speaker who had quoted 1 Corinthians 6:9:11 saying, “Surely you know that the wicked will not possess God’s Kingdom. Do not fool yourselves; people who are immoral or worship idols or are adulterers or homosexual perverts or who steal or are greedy or are drunkards or slander others or are thieves – none of these will possess God’s Kingdom.” In an article titled “Lesbian wants to be ordained” the Raleigh News & Observer later reported that Katie did not get her wish and that the Presbyterian Church (USA) had once again rejected the ordination of homosexuals. However, Katie and the other lesbians in the Presbyterian Church did not give up their quest to be ordained. And in an article titled “Presbyterians clear way for ordaining gays, lesbians,” USA Today reported on May 11, 2011 that lesbians had now become eligible for ordination. They reported that the deciding vote was cast by a Minnesota Presbytery and that, after the constitutional ratification of the amendment, practicing homosexuals can be ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA). In this action, the Presbyterians joined the United Church of Christ, the Episcopal Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in ordaining sin. In “Divine Revelation: a call from Christ to join the armies of Heaven,” I reported that Jesus indwelled me and sang “Eternal God, Whose Power Upholds” at Amity Presbyterian Church. In verse five of this hymn, Christ sang “Inspire Thy heralds of good news to live Thy life divine.” Every preacher who steps into a pulpit to witness for Jesus Christ and herald the good news of salvation is a sinner. Yet, for those brief moments that they are filled with the Holy Spirit; they are Christ to the congregation. As Christ, they must inspire His followers to lead a divine life, free of the selfish desires that lead to sinful behavior. The church cannot separate the acts homosexuals from the acts of adulterers, thieves, drunkards, and those who worship money and proclaim that this homosexual act is no longer sin and can now be ordained as a representative act of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is now calling Christians everywhere to experience spiritual birth, to store up heavenly riches, to live a divine spiritual life, to join the Armies of Heaven, to fight for church reform, and to prepare the church for His Second Coming.
