People around the world suffer from many sleep disorders and one of them is Insomnia. It is one of the most common disorders that is defined by the inability to sleep properly or even sleep at all. This happens due to an underlying medical condition. People of all ages and any gender can suffer from chronic insomnia however; elderly people and women are more victims of this disorder. If you have the inability to sleep for a prolonged time then it is possible that you may be starting to suffer from insomnia. At times the symptoms of Insomnia may just persist for few days and then go away on their own but when they last for many days to weeks then it is time to be alarmed. This condition gets triggered at point of time especially in times of a financial or emotional life crisis. This is a highly uncomfortable form of disorder where you desperately try to get some sleep but are unable to do so and in the process leaves you more stressed out. Chronic Insomnia can be marked by many symptoms. Some of these symptoms include restlessness, anxiety, irritation, sluggishness during daytime as whole night you been staying awake. The cause of insomnia could be many ranging from physical to psychiatric conditions. It may be caused due to substance abuse, chronic medical condition like hypertension, restless legs syndrome etc. The psychiatric conditions however may include depression, sleep apnea, anxiety disorder and many others. Sometimes certain food habits too cause this problem to trigger especially caffeine is known to affect the sleep adversely and keeps you wide awake. Intake of alcohol and nicotine also play an important part to develop insomnia. Similarly many medicines are significant in disrupting the sleeping pattern of an individual like anti-hypertensive, antidepressants, decongestants, antihistamines etc. Before you start or stop any of these medications it is very important to consult the physician. Also invest in a good quality mattress and pillow because sometimes the sole reason for sleep disruption could be as small as that. Listening to something soulful like music can calm a whole day's troubled mind and soothe your senses to induce sleep. Reading books is also a good idea. Check for the lighting in your room to see that it is not very bright and also if there is any light entering from outside.
