Most people have the belief that in order to cleanse their skin properly, they must use a cleanser that leaves their skin ‘squeaky clean’ to ensure they have removed all traces of pore clogging oil. This is a misconception. One of the most basic principles of chemistry is ‘like dissolves like’. The best way to remove pore clogging oil from your face is quite simple, but can be mind boggling to some- cleanse your face with oil.

Cleansing with oil is not a new concept. The ancient Egyptians used castor oil as a cleanser and olive oil as a moisturizer. This is the perfect combination for clean, fresh, moisturized skin. You may be wondering- if I have oily skin, how is cleansing with oil going to help me? The answer goes back to the earlier statement regarding basic chemistry principles.

When you use harsh cleansers and soaps to try to scrub away the oil on your face, your body tries to compensate by producing more oil, making the initial problem even worse. Your body’s own sebum (the oil produced by your scalp and face) is not the cause of acne. Hormones, clogged pores and trapped dirt are the cause. Sebum actually protects your skin from harsh environments and impurities.

Moisturizing with olive oil is a wonderful way to feed your skin while providing necessary moisture. In addition to being all natural and hypoallergenic , extra virgin olive oil has the added advantage of providing strong antioxidants, like Vitamins A and E that help repair and renew skin that has been damaged from overexposure to sun, air pollution, and other modern-day environmental hazards. Conce
ed that your oily skin doesn’t need any added oil? Don’t worry. Olive oil is beneficial for all skin types.

You can make your own simple, 2 ingredient facial cleanser at home for a fraction of what you pay for other cleansers. For a recipe to make a cleanser suitable for either normal, dry or oily skin, visit my website:
