After acquiring a cloud PBX system the next thing you need to accomplish is the IP phones, there is a wide array of handsets in the market today each having their pros and cons. As a business owner only you can tell which is more suitable for your business and will the benefits outweigh the disadvantage of that specific handset. Providers and resellers can only give you recommendations however bear in mind that your decision should be based on your requirements and not because of some sales guy’s pitch. What is an IP Phone? Basically these are handsets that can be used with VoIP services such as a cloud PBX and SIP trunking unlike regular phones these are SIP enabled with Ethernet ports, meaning you can connect it to an internet connection thus making VoIP calls possible. Appearance wise it may appear similar to a regular PBX unit but with more dedicated buttons and at times larger displays. It also supports numerous audio codec which is ideal for making internet based calls. General Tips When shopping for an IP phone to be used on your cloud PBX, be sure that you discuss with your service provider the compatibility, although generally all handsets are SIP enabled there are rare instances that the platform that a service provider uses is not supported by a specific brand and or model, so it is best to grab a list of their recommended brands and go from there. Also keep in mind that you can mix and match the handsets, meaning you need not to stick to one brand and model for all your extensions, it can be a variety depending on the needs and work load of a staff. For an instance you have 5 staffs, one is an attendant who will man the calls the transfer it to the right person then your attendant would need a reception style desk phone since it will allow him or her to transfer the calls easily because of its large chunky buttons and programmable keys paired with a large display. Let’s say two of your staff is always on the go then a wireless handset will be ideal for them, they can still continue their work but still be able to answer phone calls when needed. 1 of your staff is glued to his desk checking on the invoices and all then a regular desk will be enough. Like mentioned above there are many variants and designs of an IP phone, choose what you think is best for each o your staff based on their work load and requirements, if done properly you will be amazed how well it can aid you in growing your business.
