What are IP phones? IP phones are handsets that use VoIP technologies to transmit phones calls over the Internet or a private IP network. Subsequently the handsets are able to use the Session Internet Protocol (SIP) to connect to regular telephone systems over the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). Most IP phone models today are capable of multiple SIP registration to allow multiple connections over a single unit. How to choose your units Before choosing any handset make sure that you discuss with your cloud PBX service provider on what to consider like the audio codec that it should support, the type of SIP registration and security parameters to make sure that there are no compatibility issues that will surface later on. For an instance your receptionist should have a reception style desk phone with large LCD display for easy reception handling, staffs that run up and down the office will find wireless units really handy and managers will mostly likely need a conference unit to perform his managerial roles. It is also important to take into account the accessories that are compatible with the units like headsets, wall brackets and expansion panels since it will help in the overall performance of the product. Lastly make it a habit to check forums and product review websites to see how the product is performing and hear it from real customers and real people who had experience the products first hand to get an idea what you can expect and determine whether it will suffice your needs.
