After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, many of us will find our defense mechanisms are taxed from all the stress and sugary food. Consequently, this lowers our immune systems and colds and flus start popping up. To better protect your body during this vulnerable season, I recommend the following remedies and protocols:
Cold Protocol:
Invest in a normal saline nasal spray, which can be purchased at any pharmacy. Regular flushing of mucus from nasal mucosa will stop multiplication of the harmful microbes that at critical mass can invade our body and cause a flu or cold. Do a nose cleanse several times per day or when you feel that your nose is clogged. A Netti pot is a great substitute, but takes more time.

Right after cleaning the nasal passages with normal saline, use 2 sprays of Silver water (10PPM). This silver solution is a safe and powerful antimicrobial. Unlike antibiotics that kill only bacteria, silver solution kills viruses, bacteria and fungi. Use Silver water once per day for prevention, and more frequently if you are sick (4-5x/day). Continue until you are completely recovered.
Recommended Supplements to take if you are getting sick:
Oscillococcinum ® - a powerful homeopathic medicine proven to shorten the duration of cold/flu symptoms IF TAKEN EARLY!! Ideally should be taken at the first sign of sickness and within the first 24 hours. I also recommend taking it after being exposed to someone who is sick. This is also an excellent preventative method for kids if given weekly (on Sundays) during the cold season.

Vitamin D3 – 25,000 units once a day, ONLY for 3 days. Vit D blocks multiplication of viruses and abrupt development of the cold/flu…. http://www.virologyj.com/content/5/1/29

Vit C with Bioflavones – take 500mg with a glass of water every 2 hours until you have developed a soft stool. It is normal to end up taking 2-3 gm per day. Repeat the procedure the next day. On the third day continue with 1 tab 3 times per day.

Zinc — 25-30mg twice per day for 3 days. Be sure to take with food, as Zinc may upset your stomach.

Probiotics – Make sure they are a physician grade potency (15-20 billion species in one dose). Always keep these in the house! These are your immune system’s best friends! Take one dose per day if you are sick or if prone to sickness during the cold/flu season.
Home Remedies:
Purchase a good quality honey (ideally raw and locally made) and the bright golden colored spice curcumin, found in any spice counter. Make a 1:1 ratio mixture of the curcumin and honey (one tablespoon of curcumin and one tablespoon of honey). You should end up with a mayonnaise-like consistency. Take ½ teaspoon of the thick mixture and suck on it for sore throats or to simply tune up your immune system. Do this 2-3 times per day if you are sick, or once a day as an excellent preventative measure.

Drink one cup of green tea (or plain warm boiled water) every hour. This measure will help your body to detoxify from dying bacteria and viruses.
