Unified communication is a brand new concept wherein the users can communicate collaboratively. All the different means of communication have been channelized under this concept. By the use of a single user interface, it allows the capability to share, forward, download, read, write or edit the data from the original repository.

IP telephony powered by SIP (Session initiation protocol) has welcomed this new set of innovations to the world of business telephony. IP telephony is based on the concept of cloud computing and this complimentary way of communicating rests on the cloud’s ability to support all the user data in a secure and reliable manner. Positioning of all the information assets on the cloud makes it possible to go and access that part of relevant information as per need.
Although unified communication and IP telephony are complimentary to each other but they don’t have a single meaning. Both of these things can be used individually because they are complete in their self. But, we need to understand the set of benefits that VOIP and unified communications have in store for the user, when merged together.
The sense and ability to collaborate are one of the key drivers to business success. This definitely leads to the employees working with improved efficiency and giving greater level of performance. For an example, in an office where all the workers work under the same roof, they can cooperate and frame the solution to any problem just by having a meeting in their conference hall. But, what about the company that has multiple branch offices, where two employees working on a single project have to fix the same issue? Although, they can talk over the phone but can they really access the work completed by the other person or talk out issues looking at the same screen while simultaneously updating it by feeding the correct information? No, it is not possible without using the capabilities of unified communication.

For the ones who have trans-oceanic meetings time and again, it works out best because companies spend thousands of dollars on each meeting and if an alte
ative like video conferencing solution with Telepresence can create a 3D virtual environment of the second person being present in front of you and you can notice out every action or hand movement made in front of you so as to make discussions. So, you can save out on such travelling expenses.

Moreover, by saying that the companies with multi-location offices benefit a lot does not mean that the companies having a single location don’t benefit at all from unified communication suite. It is of equal benefit to all because the suite includes Instant Messaging and presence capabilities that can detect the presence of the person while he is contacted and if present, the person can send an Instant message, or otherwise just deliver a voicemail saying that he needs to contact the person for so and so reason.

The basic idea behind it is that every time you dial a call, you enter a virtual environment, instantly gaining an ability to share information, data and documents with your work force and customers. Now, the question you might ask me is that the technology has not left anything behind and there are many content sharing systems available in the market. The answer to this question is that the virtual environment created by Unified Communication and the feature of personal presence adds the element of closer interactivity to the avatar-based experience of the user. So, while making a call via cost friendly IP PBX, you can make important business communications with anyone sitting miles away and get the feel of personal interaction.
