Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood. It is one of three recognized disorders in the autism spectrum, the other two being Asperger syndrome which lacks delays in cognitive development and language and Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified. Autism is a spectrum of disorders characterized by marked abnormalities in communication and social interactions. Stem cells are nothing more than a type of cell that can differentiate a different type of cell - sometimes many different types of cells. The rationale for pursuing stem cell therapy in autism is based on encouraging results of unpublished data examining stem cell therapy in children with cerebral palsy, a group of disorders that affect not only movement but learning, behavior and cognition. The potential dysfunction of the immune system as a driver for abnormalities in the nervous system has researchers interested in a possible link. Autism is actually more accurately described as a spectrum disorder, (Autism Spectrum Disorder) with some children demonstrating more severe symptoms than others. While some theories suggest that connections between neurons or nerve cells may be to blame for autism, it is unclear if stem cell therapy may help to restore such connections. While stem cells have been used to treat cancer, Parkinson’s disease and certain immunologic disorders, the role and relationship of the immune system and the nervous system in the development of autism is something that has been an area of recent interest. Research in autism has indicated abnormalities in spinal fluid and chemical signaling in the brain- anecdotal reports of children undergoing stem cell therapy have indicated some potentially encouraging results. Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old.
Stem cell therapy is a novel and effective approach to treating autism and is based on the unique ability of stem cells to influence metabolism, immune system and restore damaged cells and tissues. Autism is a highly variable neurodevelopment disorder that first appears during infancy or childhood, and generally follows a steady course without remission. It is distinguished not by a single symptom but by a characteristic triad of symptoms: impairments in social interaction; impairments in communication and restricted interests and repetitive behavior. Autism is a disorder of neural development and affects approximately 1 out of every 150 children born is diagnosed with autism that appears in the first 3 years of life mainly charterized by impaired social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells & their synapses connect and organize. There is no fix reason for autism but it may occur due to environmental, immunological and neurological factors. Rehabilitation is the part of stem cell therapy. Autism patient should have some kind of rehabilitation to help maximize their potential and to help teach techniques which make everyday life easier. Rehabilitation including physiotherapy provides enhanced environment to make stem cell more functional by helping the cell migrating and proliferation fast. Rehabilitation-including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and cognitive retraining-may help reduce these autism disabilities.
